Here’s some more images from this past weekend from Point On Archery. I had the great pleasure Saturday the shoot with Bradley his team and ours were paired to shoot together. Bradley is a bare bow archer that has incredible skill and had a tremendous weekend. He put I think 14 arrows in the 12 spot with the balance in the 10. He inspired me to bear down after several low score in arrows of my own.

Wow great to get out and shoot this past weekend. I participated In the Break The Barriers Marked 3D National Championship down near Millerton Lake. 102 targets two days one arrow in the foothills. Had the privilege of shooting with some great competitors and got to catch up with some friends. I teamed with an competitor for the traditional team competition he and I have been one upping each other in the Sliver Senior Longbow class for quite awhile. Due to the way CHB champio...nships are held we never have shot head to head until this weekend. It was fun getting to know him I left the door open this time but I will get next time. One other Yahi member also attended I only briefly saw Thomas but he was having fun. There were reported 450 in attendance it’s an open shoot so there were Shooters in attendance Pro’s to beginners everyone enjoying 3D Archery and raising money for Break The Barriers. The event was covered live by Bow Junky Media check them out online. Thanks to Spot Archery for Hosting the Traditional Team shoot. They put up some great Awards and prizes. They have scheduled the 2021 shoot for the Weekend of April 3-4. I will be back and better prepared. See more

Hi, It’s been a while.Typically we take off August and September as a club traditionally many club members go hunting. That’s not an excuse for myself I have not gone big game hunting in several years. I find out of state hunting too expensive and hunting in our state hardly worth the effort. Normally I get my big game fun at 3D shoots up and down the State COVID as all but eliminated that. Next weekend I am going to the Break The Barriers NFFA marked 3D shoot. For those that... have not heard about this event it is being held October 10 & 11 North east of Fresno near Millerton Lake on a private ranch. It is the same location that the Rhinehart 100 was held in the past. This event was scheduled for earlier in the year but COVID restrictions delayed it. The format is 101 targets 50 will be shot each day. It is a one arrow shoot at marked yardages with all NFAA shooting styles. There is an option to participate in a team event for cash prizes go to https://btb3dopen.org" if you are interested in attending. Good news for the range the non County resident restriction has been lifted the range is now open again to everyone. The sad news is we are not able to hold our Fall Fling this year due to State mandated restrictions of large gatherings. Hopefully the restrictions will be lifted or modified next year so we can hold events. We are in pretty good shape right now. We do have one target butt on the practice range that was all but destroyed due to someone using broad heads. The 30 yard bale on the practice range has the center shot out and the damage done could have only been by use of non field or target points. We have signs posted in several places in plain sight stating use of broad heads is not permitted. To replace the foam bale is around $500 for a new one. We will attempt to repair it by re-stacking and banding it and get some more use out of it. As a reminder we are all responsible for our actions when out on the range and it is our responsibility to know the rules wether on our range or any where else. I hope that anyone that has been hunting has had a successful hunt this fall or at least some quality time in the woods. It’s been rough here locally with al the fires and closures. I heard that during archery season that the seemed to be more hunter activity this season than normal which is interesting according to Fish and Wildlife the numbers have been declining. I also heard that all the forest camp grounds this summer were at or beyond capacity since COVID has closed down a lot of actives people have taken to the outdoors to get away. I would be interested in hearing from you if you have had a memorable hunt. That’s if for now let’s pray all the craziness passes and we have a better 2021. Curt Stevenot President Yahi Bowmen

Heres the story and a video of a cougar before it came at me, and my reaction immediately afterwards. Yesterday, I was still hunting in a timber stand for black...tail deer around noon. I got to a nice little clearing with good cover for myself. I sat down, and waited 30 minutes. Then I started calling with a distressed fawn call. About 15 minutes after my calling session I saw a dark figure coming in, straight to my front. As it lurked through the shadows I thought it was a small bear. Then, it stepped into the sunlight. I could tell clear as day, I was face to face with a big cougar. I turned my body, and lifted my bow quickly. Upon moving my whole body the cat snapped its head and locked onto me. It stared me down, flicking its tail for a few minutes before crouching into a laid position. I sat in my chair 20 yards from the lion for roughly 25 minutes. I could clearly see, the cat knew I was there and was not afraid. I yelled "hey cat, go on". This did not scare him, instead he licked his lips, pinned his ears back and began stalking towards me. I drew my bow and loosed an arrow that flew 10 feet over his head. The cat stopped, still locked onto me, so I flung the rest of my arrows, which all landed at his feet. He was not phased. Now, with an empty quiver and nothing but my buck 119, I was out of options. I knew at this point if I didnt act quick, I was going to be lunch. All I could think to do was run him down and hope he's not up for a fight. So I started yelling, and ran towards my death. The cat turned and ran. He went about 10 yards, stopped and looked at me again. At this point, I pulled out my phone to film. I took a couple more steps towards him yelling, which sent him off again. Moments before slipping away he stopped one more time, looking back at me for a moment, then slithering off into the brush.

Sad news in the archery community Dee Blank passed on this past week. She has been a fixture in local archery, State and National level for many years. She was always a smile face at Lodi’s events. She will be missed but not forgotten.

I don’t understand what’s so special about this, it’s the way I feel when standing on two feet on soils flat ground!
