West Plainfield E30 is covering the City of Davis while they are working an incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
Yes it’s January, but with the lack of precipitation and just finishing up a north wind event, fuels are tinder and ripe for combustion. Please take extra precautions and weigh the risk versus gain before igniting your piles on burn days!
In November of 2020 the West Plainfield Fire Department hired it's third full time employee, Lieutenant Larry LaTour III. Larry has been training with our two other full time employees in preparation of moving our staffing model from 12 hour day coverage to 24 hour coverage. This morning at 7:00 a.m. Lt. LaTour became the first firefighter in our district to provide 24 hour coverage from the fire station in over 3 decades. The move to 24 hour coverage has been a goal of th...e Board of Commissioners and Fire Chief Cherie Rita for quite some time. Today we achieved that goal! Our career staff is still augmented by over 20 dedicated volunteer members who at a moments notice are there for you in your time of need! Our Department at a glance: 5- Commissioners 1- Fire Chief 2- Assistant Chief's 1- Battalion Chief 4- Fire Captains (2 Career, 2 Volunteer) 2- Lieutenants (1 Career, 1 Volunteer) 17- Firefighters (14 EMT's) 2- Type 1 Fire Engines 2- Type 1 Water Tenders 2- Type V Fire Engines 1- Type VI Fire Engine Approximately 35 square miles of rural Yolo County is protected by the West Plainfield Fire Department.

On December 8, 2020, at 6:55 p.m. the Yolo Emergency Communications Agency received a report of a fire at a residence on County Road 95. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from a detached garage on the property. The building did have fire sprinklers that activated to slow the fire growth. Firefighters made a quick aggressive attack to keep the fire to the contents of origin. West Plainfield Firefighters were assisted by the Willow Oak Fire Protection District, Winters Fire Department, and the Yolo Fire Department. ***Update - 10/25/20 1030 hrs - We are now Task Force 4275. Due US National Weather Service Sacramento California declaring a High Wind Event and an Extreme Fir...e Weather event due to the expected high winds and low humidity, we are up staffing Engine 12 as part of a pre-positioned Task Force 4275. The extra staffing will be in place from Sunday, October 25 at 8 am through Monday, October 26. Please keep in mind that any small spark can start a large, fast moving fire with the winds and low humidity we are expecting. Please help us prevent fires: 1. No outside fires during the high fire danger period including rural residential and agricultural burns 2. Dispose of your smoking materials properly 3. If you are towing a trailer, make sure the tow chain is properly secured and will not drag. Lastly, we hope evacuations won’t be necessary but if they are, now is a good time to get ready. Prepare your family and home ahead of time for the possibility of having to evacuate. Ensure you have a plan of what to take and where to go don’t forget prescription medications and important documents. Make sure that you have signed up for Yolo Alert (www.Yolo-Alert.org). Make sure to visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org for more ways to prepare for the event of a wildfire. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it’s cool.... Make sure smoke alarms are installed in your home at least 10’ away from the cooking area. This will help avoid nuisance alarms triggered by cooking. #FirePreventionWeek Learn more safety tips at https://bit.ly/2XtNrzK

Recently the Commissioners of the West Plainfield Fire Protection District authorized the purchase of a water tender to replace one that has been serving our community since 1994. The new apparatus will be a Rosenbauer 2000 gallon water tender with a 500 gpm pump on a Navistar Chassis. We are patiently awaiting the arrival, sometime in October.
Great opportunity with our neighbors to the north!
Your West Plainfield Firefighters have been in the thick of the activity in Yolo County, as well as around the State. Our Assistant Chief, Dave Stiles, went out in support of the Willow Oak Fire Protection District on their Brush 7 as an Engine Boss to Southern California. Last week West Plainfield provided Water 230 on the initial attack dispatch to the Markley Fire near Canyon Creek Resort. W230 took on additional roles as structure protection support in the Golden Bear E...states with Esparto Fire Protection District. Meanwhile back in our area we have been able to provide constant staffing for new starts and incidents in and around our community. We would like to remind our residents that wildfire can strike in an instant, and planning for disaster today could mean the difference in survival when the time comes. Please visit www.readyforwildfire.org for helpful tools to keep your home safe from wildfires.
Here’s a lesson from rural Solano County. This neighbor's son has cut a fire break on their side of the valley every year regardless of the fact that there hasn...’t been a fire on that side, in anyone’s recollection, for decades. This year, that simple couple hours of work on a tractor saved his father’s home and perhaps other neighbors as well. #PleasantsFire #QuailCanyon #DefenseableSpace #FireBreak CAL FIRE CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit Vacaville Fire Protection District Solano County Sheriff's Office

West Plainfield Firefighters with the assistance of the Willow Oak Fire Protection District, contained an escaped control burn threatening two outbuildings to one acre. Units remained on scene for approximately one hour to mop up and extinguish all hot spots.
