Annual Memorial Day Flag Placement May 25, 2019 Scouts will be placing flags again this year on the graves at the Los Angeles National Cemetery in West Los Angeles... 950 South Sepulveda Blvd. Parking will be in the Veterans Administration Facilities through the tunnel on Constitution Avenue across from the Cemetery as it was last year. We will start at 8:00 am, you MUST be there by 7:30 am in order to get signed in and receive your location map. Sign in starts at 7:00AM.You may pre-register your unit’s participation at the WLACC Website: www.bsa-la.org or go to http://flagplacement.bsa-la.org Do not remove ANY of the flags from the Cemetery grounds. All Scouts and Adults must be in full Class A uniform. Leaders are expected to explain to their Scouts the reason for the Memorial Day Ceremony. The Scouts must be made aware of appropriate behavior while at the cemetery. Do not let the Scouts make any unnecessary noise or run around while in the cemetery. Do not bring any food or drinks onto the cemetery grounds! Only water will be allowed! Each Troop or Pack should bring their unit flags with them, as they will be displayed in front of the assembly facing the stage (not on the stage) during the presentations. Good morning Scouters! I want to share some news of a change we’ve had for the Chairmanship for the Memorial day Flag Placement program at our National Cemetery that is sponsored by the Western Los Angeles County Council. Originally, Scouter Mr. Mark Cotter had accepted the position but recently informed me he had to decline the offer. I have a lot of respect for Mark, he is a standup guy. As his friend, I wish him all the best and will always offer my support to him. Now t...he good news! Fortunately for us, we reached out to Mr. David Goldenberg from Troop 23. He has agreed to take on the position on an interim basis. So let’s all give David our full support with running this program next year. So, with that being said, if anybody’s interested in taking on this position on a long-term basis please reach out to Mr. David Goldenberg. I will be working with David to help him make this transition and running the program but as I had stated in my previous email I will be relocating to Texas soon so I’m counting on all you great adult scouters to continue to support one of the biggest and best programs that Boy Scouts of America puts on for the Western Los Angeles Council and its members. Flag Retrieval Program: Hello everyone, my name is Keith Smith and I am the current chairman of the flag placement program at our Veterans National Cemetery in west Los Angeles. The reason I am writing everyone is we are currently looking for an individual who would be interested in taking the chair position for the flag retrieval program for the National Cemetery. This position does not require you to be in a adult Scouting position, it can be held by anybody that is willing... to help with the honorable responsibility of retrieving all the flags that are put out for for Memorial Day. The duties of this position would be the responsibility of contacting local volunteer groups to come out and help with the retrieval of the flags. Flag retrieval is always done on the following Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and possibly Friday if needed after Memorial Day. Well folks it’s that time of the year we have officially opened up registration for the flag placement program. Please take note in the change of the link addre...ss for registration. We also like to announce a dynamic change to the registration process, after you have registered your unit at the registration link, before the day of the program you will receive an email with your assigned area. This is why it’s critical that you only register an email at the time of your registration that will be monitored. Please help us by only going to the assigned areas that you received by email on the day of the program. And only received flags from the flag boxes nearest to your areas This will help us streamline the process of registering units that that were not able to register online.
