When we engage students in fun, hands-on learning, it becomes a rippling effect of benefits in their academic foundation. Their cognitive growth is spurred on ...as they learn to mentally reason the cause and effect of how things work. They improve socially as they work together with others to figure things out, developing their skills in cooperation and problem solving. Their emotional side is triggered by the joy of learning and experiencing the scientific method, making them WANT to learn more! This was certainly the case with the students at our Village site! We don’t miss the opportunity to explore the STEM focus with our kids in ways that ignite their passion for learning. Mentos Rockets is a great experiment, like so many others, that we do at almost all of our Leaven Sites, but what makes it more fun?!?! INVITING FRIENDS! We are so grateful for partners like the The Wiseman Company who truly care about the future of the kids in their communities. It’s one thing to BE involved and contribute generously to the needs of underserved families, but it’s an even better thing to GET involved and help make an even bigger impact by participating in the learning process right alongside these kids. Even if it means getting sprayed with soda! All of us here at the Leaven are so grateful that the people of the Wiseman Company are willing do it all, even if it means getting a little sticky.

The Wiseman Company is planning on converting One Harbor Center to solar power, which will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The estimated year one... solar production of this new system will be 478,231 kWh. This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions avoided by 118 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled and CO2 emissions from 38,000 gallons of gasoline consumed. We will be installing a canopy mounted solar parking lot structure. The layout pictured shows the area (in blue) where the solar modules will be installed. Construction is expected to begin 3rd quarter 2019. The Wiseman Company’s identity is rooted in their core values which include integrity, ethical behavior, and a high level of excellence while working with customers. The installation of a solar generating system only exemplifies these values, as a symbol of The Wiseman Company’s commitment to providing the best possible amenities to their tenants, employees and local residents.
