Wilson and Sons

The main objective of my recent road trip was to retrieve this chest of drawers from my mom. I made it in 1988/89 during my first year as a student at CR. Robin was 2, and often joined us in the shop. Now he's 31 and quite enjoying his second year at the same school. His brothers are both graduates as well. My eyesight is too crap to do this kind of detail work anymore, so it's really nice to have this back- I feel good about it. 130 hand cut dovetails in these drawers, and a whole lot of TLC

Aaaaaand that makes three. Robin getting the shake from Father Burns as he graduates his first year at College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking. Now all three sons completed the program that I was so fortunate to attend, what, 29 years ago? Rolling down 101 back in 1990, Alex just 4 weeks old, the business name "Wilson and Sons" appeared on my internal screen. Now here we all are, grown up, working together to forge a right livelihood with these hand skills we all learned at ...CR, our diligence and integrity. The phrase "little did I know" comes to mind. Which is ok with me: I am still learning as well, sniffing the wind for how best to keep moving forward. We get 10 weeks till Robin goes back for year two: bolder, confident, having taken honors as this year's "Order of the Elephant", given to the one student that embodies the spirit of generosity, dedication - the person you most want on hand if you have a difficult glue-up.
