Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue

Hey 2020 - you can now kiss our big fat butts goodbye! Keepin' it Wild in 2021! (and for our Red Road friends - notice the four colors. )

This poem is so very special to me. It was written as an ode to "China". China was the horse that Lifesavers was started with. She belonged to me, personally, my horse. Not a rescue, but the one that inspired me to rescue others. This poem was written by Billy Smith who worked at Lifesavers in July of 2015 when we had to say goodbye to China. It was a sad day. This poem honors her and that day. It still makes me cry. (Jill Starr) STANDING QUIET BY THE GATE by Billy Smith The... old black mare stands quiet by the gate. It's not early in her life, but late. On her hip she wears a brand but, its not from these hands. This ranch has a different way. She started it all they say. Good Ol' Doc stopped by today. He knows we will hate what he has to say. It's not early in his life, but late. A kinder mare he can't recall. I've only known her since the fall. Last week his old truck finally slipped a gear. Nowhere near what she has on for years. We will help her to the other side. About these things we have already cried. It seems to be all our fate. We stand quiet by the gate. How did it get so late?
