Studies show L-carnitine boosts physical and mental energy and endurance, reduces fatigue and muscle loss, and enhances cognitive function. This leads to an obvious question. Could replenishing carnitine stores with nutritional supplements delay or reverse some of the adverse effects of aging? . . . #Whitaker #Wellness #Vitamins #Supplements #WednesdayWisdom #Health ... #Wellness #NewportBeach #Natural #Aging #Energy #Nutrition #OrangeCounty #Medicine https://buff.ly/2GFQTBG

Cholesterol-lowering statin drugs do not treat disease. They do lower cholesterol levelsbut, high cholesterol is not a disease per se. It’s simply one of many risk factors for heart disease. The first order of business is to get off those medications and started on a multipronged program that lowers cholesterol levels, reduces risk of heart disease, and improves multiple aspects of health. https://buff.ly/2RGOhVU . . . #Whitaker #Wellness #Heart #Health #Vitamins #Supplements #HeartDisease #WednesdayWisdom #NewportBeach #Natural #Medicine

Everybody talks about spring allergies but I swear mine get worse in the winter. Is there anything natural I can try? J. G., Severna Park, MD Winter allergies are actually quite common, since we spend more time indoors with recirculated air and allergens such as dust mites, animal dander, and mold. In addition to frequent vacuuming, laundering of linens, dusting, and changing air filters, one of the best natural prod- ucts I’ve come across is Natural D-Hist. This combination of several allergy-fighting ingredients (vitamin C, quercetin, bromelain, stinging nettles, and N-acetyl-cysteine) helps dampen inflamma- tion, promotes a normal mucus response, and clears nasal passages. You can order Natural D-Hist by calling the Whitaker Wellness Vitamin Store at 800-810-6655.

A healthy recipe perfect for today’s rainy day. Chipotle Chili Spicy, smoky, vegetarian and loaded with nutrients.... Serves 6 Ingredients: 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 onion, chopped 1 clove garlic, peeled and minced 1 cup celery, chopped 1 cup carrots, chopped 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped cup ripe olives, sliced 2 chipotle chilies canned in adobo sauce, chopped, plus a little sauce (more or less to tastethey’re very hot) 1 (14-ounce) can low-sodium tomatoes with juice, chopped 1/3 cup tomato paste 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained 3 cups water 2 tablespoons chili powder teaspoon ground cumin Directions: Heat olive oil in a large, heavy saucepan or Dutch oven over medium heat Add onion, garlic, celery, carrots, and green pepper. Sauté for 10 minutes, stirring often. Add olives, chilies, tomatoes, tomato paste, beans, beer, water, and spices. Stir well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for a minimum of 1 hour, stirring occasionally and adding more water, if necessary. Chili may be cooked for up to 4 hours if you have the time. The longer you cook it, the better the flavor. In fact, chili is even better reheated the next day. Nutritional Info: Per serving: 160 calories, 3 g fat, 7 g protein, 26 g carbohydrates, 8 g fiber, 307 mg sodium. Note: For more protein, you could add lean ground turkey to the recipe. Just brown it along with the onions and other vegetables. Optional garnishes include fresh cilantro, a dollop of nonfat sour cream, or a sprinkle of reduced-fat cheese.
