Effective Thursday October 1, we will resume charging fares for all Wheels, Rapid and Dial-a-Ride paratransit services. Fares have been suspended since March 20 as a preventive measure in response to the potential spread of COVID-19 because of the proximity of the fare payment area to the bus operator. We have installed temporary barriers next to the driver’s compartment that will shield drivers from boarding passengers. Passengers have also been required to board and exit buses through the rear door since March 20. Front door boarding will resume on October 1 as well. At this time, there will be no change to the level of service currently provided.
We are very excited to have been named North America's Transit Agency of the Year by the American Public Transportation Association!! What an honor for our awesome employees who have kept providing an essential service during the pandemic. Read more here: http://ow.ly/4kpN50BsRqD
The Alameda County Department of Public Health has issued an order that requires all persons waiting for or riding on public transportation to wear a face covering over their mouth and nose to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The order defines face covering as a covering made of cloth, fabric, or other soft or permeable material, without holes, that covers only the nose and mouth and surrounding areas of the lower face. A face covering may be factory-made or may be handma...de from a t-shirt, sweatshirt, towel, or other fabric. The order took effect at 11:59 p.m. on Friday April 17, 2020. Enforcement begins at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 22, 2020. Failure to comply with any of the provisions of this order constitutes an imminent threat and immediate menace to public health, constitutes a public nuisance, and is punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both. The entire order can be viewed here: http://ow.ly/m9xd50zkL11 Your cooperation is appreciated.
Our bus operators are rocking some stylish protective gear, thanks to Livermore-based Liv Rocks, who hooked us up with washable masks to help keep our drivers safe. Liv Rocks is owned by 10-year-old Liv and her mom Alicia. The company is donating two masks to frontline essential workers for every mask purchased. Giving new meaning to Meals on Wheels!! With limited ridership on our Wheels Dial-a-Ride services recently, three Wheels paratransit drivers volunteered to deliver hot meals, snacks, and beverages to seniors as part of the Meals on Wheels program. Each of the drivers are making deliveries for about four hours twice each week. Here is Wheels Dial-A-Ride driver Daniel Buffington making a Meals on Wheels delivery to Arbor Vista Senior Community in Livermore.
Special shout out to these three young Tri-Valley residents who stopped by today and donated 300 disposable face masks to help keep our Wheels bus drivers and mechanics safe. They also brought Thank You notes and cards, which we have posted for our employees to see.
It's not just the vehicles that get cleaned daily! Regina Flores, Ops Manager at MV's Wheels Bus Division #44, is all smiles as she sprays to protect our Driver’s Area. Thank you Regina, Thank you MV Team!
Weekday ridership was down 90% last week compared to the first week in March, so we are implementing weekend service all week starting Monday April 6, with 30 minute frequencies on the Rapids. Routes 2, 11, 20X, 70X and 580X will not operate. Details: http://ow.ly/7VMq50z0qsL
Effective Thursday March 26, we will be reducing service frequencies on Rapid Routes 10R and 30R and will suspend operating Routes 2, 20X and 580X as a result of ridership losses following the Shelter in Place order. Visit our website for details: http://ow.ly/dKrh50yUN1v
