This was a fun one. Cadillac El Dorado 1970s.
Happy Halloween! We are in this business to help you avoid this.
You may look at us and say, they are fixing cars. We look at what we do and say, we are fixing the vehicle that life will be lived through; the vehicle that gets someone from point A to point B; the vehicle that gets their kids to practice; that will get those same kids to high school; that will one day be given to those grown kids and be packed to the bursting and driven off to college. It takes maintenance to keep a car in the family for years. We've seen this progression over and over again throughout the years and though people age, the experience never gets old.
We actually like getting car envy. It's a perk of the job! All black Land Rover Discovery made our morning.
Here's to your Monday not going like this.
Did you know that even though it doesn't rain more than once a year here, windshield wipers still need replacing? The sun degrades the materials, so not replacing your wipers twice a year can catch up to you when the skies finally do open.
Coolant: it keeps your engine cool. It seems obvious but engines can get too hot. A too hot engine is a sad engine and then we fix it and make it happy again. But if you'd rather skip that whole process, check your coolant once before summer and once before winter.
It's like brushing your teeth: you just have to check your oil. Although, for everyone's sake, we hope you brush your teeth more than once a month. Speaking of, check your oil more than once a month. But, at the very least, check it once a month. It's not rocket science, it's automobile science. Engines off, ladies and gents. Pull the dipstick out, wipe off any oil and poke it back in. Now pull it out and check where the oil is on the stick. There is usually a zone marked out where you are good to go if the oil reaches it. We recommend keeping some oil in the trunk for top offs. Running low on oil is bad news for engines.
Ways to keep the car out of harms way: Check your tire pressure. The correct tire pressure should be on the inside of your driver's side door. You'll need a tire pressure monitor, but it'll save you money in the long run. Your tires will last longer (CHA-CHING) and your vehicle will have better fuel economy (DOUBLE CHA-CHING). Here are some Amazon Tire Gauges because we love our customers and we love Amazon.
Did your mechanic say to ignore your check engine light? That's not really a good idea. Even if you know why the light is on in the first place, and it isn't a big deal, theres no way to know if or when other things in your car break! If you like to be proactive, we recommend getting a code reader. They aren't going to fix anything, but at least you can feel a little more informed before you come talk to us.
What's the most memorable car you've ever owned? Would you ever get one again?
Saturdays are great days to blow through that "to do" list. Part of your car's list should be to schedule regular maintenance. Just like going to the dentist, it's something you just have to do.
