Westlands Water District Board of Directors approved donating 4.61 acres to the City of Mendota to support Phase 2 of the Rojas Pierce Park Expansion Project, which is planned to include two soccer fields, an additional restroom and concession building, and sports field lighting, as well as additional parking. This project advances the City of Mendota’s vision to provide high-quality, easily-accessible recreational opportunities for residents and surrounding communities, sa...id Cristian Gonzalez, City Manager for the City of Mendota. We’re grateful for Westlands’ continued partnership in achieving these goals, and we look forward to the project’s full approval and construction. The City of Mendota has worked to expand and improve Rojas Pierce Park since 2006. In 2008, Westlands donated 10 acres to the City to support the first phase of the park’s renovation and expansion, which involved demolishing most of the existing facilities and rebuilding, including; new landscaping, a concert pavilion, a splash park, two jungle-gym play areas, a temporary skate park, three basketball courts, a permanent concession stand, restrooms, and an emergency/maintenance access road. The land previously donated by Westlands has become a new adult softball/youth baseball diamond with covered bleachers and a new adult play soccer field. In addition to the new sports fields, the future phase of the park’s expansion will also include installing new shade structures, planting new trees and improving surrounding streets. Recently Westlands Water District, in partnership with California Department of Water Resources completed construction of the #LowerYoloRestorationProject. On the map below, the project is located north west of #ProspectIsland along the Sacramento River. The completion of this project shows the importance of collaboration when it comes to water management, said Ted Craddock, DWR Deputy Director of the State Water Project. When multiple organizations can work as partners in managing how we deliver and move water throughout the state, finding solutions that benefit humans, native species and the environment are possible.

Happy Thanksgiving. It's been a heck of a year, but we are all doing it together. What are you grateful for this year? We are grateful for the farmers and farming community in the District who are essential to feeding the nation.
It is #NationalPumpkinDay! Westlands had 12 acres of pumpkins grown in the District last year, and compared to most crops grown in Westlands that may not seem like much but when each acre produces an average of 4,000 pumpkins, that is a lot of jack-o-lanterns!
Fresno County Farm Bureau announced the 2019 Ag Crop Report - Fresno County does it again! For the second year in a row, Fresno County is #1 in the NATION for ag production!
Don't go nuts but... today is #NationalNutDay! There is a lot to celebrate packed in to #almonds and #pistachios specifically. Both a great source of protein and delicious!

It is #DrinkLocalWineWeek this week! Last year, over 16,000 acres of wine grapes were grown in the District. That is a LOT of wine! #Cheers #WeAreWestlands
Today, in partnership w/California Department of Water Resources and Hallmark Group, we announced completion of construction converting 2,100 acres of cattle pasture to tidal marsh, riparian, and upland buffer habitat in furtherance of California #EcoRestore! Westlands Water District has long believed that restoration of water supplies for large areas of California requires that we address all of the factors that limit the abundance of native, at-risk fish species in the D...elta, said Tom Birmingham, Westlands’ General Manager. He added, Completion of this project is a significant step in that direction, and it represents collaboration among numerous fish and wildlife and water agencies. A heartfelt thank you to the growers and farmworkers today and every day. #ThankAFarmer on #NationalFarmersDay for the nutritious, abundant and delicious food and fiber they bring to all of us, year round. We see you!
On this final day of #CAWaterWeek we are highlighting Ter, she has been with Westlands since 2010 and supervises HR and Admin, always willing to lend an ear and up for any task! Thanks for all you do! #ThankWaterPros
#DYK there are over 3,000 meters in Westlands? Water is metered when it leaves the #CVP and enters into Westlands' fully enclosed buried pipelines, and again when it leaves the pipelines. All those meters require District staff to ensure proper calibration and tracking of this precious resource. Just like growers in Westlands, we do our part to make sure #EveryDropCounts #ThankWaterPros #WeAreWestlands
