All kittens are special, but a pair that has been hand raised by one of our incredible fosters since they were just days old has that extra something Meet Morty (#A1949914; orange male) & Teddy (#A1949916; gray female). Their foster mom has shared their story with us in hopes to find these 9 week old babies the most amazing home The kittens were found by a gardener when they were just 4 days old. The gardener immediately brought them to the West La shelter. I picked t...hem up several hours later and have fostered them for the last 8 weeks. At first their eyes weren’t open and they had to be bottle fed around the clock. They were healthy, ate well and loved to be held and patted. They transitioned to wet food at about 6 weeks and are eating Purina Pro Plan kitten food (chicken and liver seems to be their favorite) and Royal Canin mother and baby cat canned food. They were easy to litter box train and always go to the bathroom in their litter box. They have been held, pet and played with by both adult females and males, and my grandchildren (ages 5 and 7), so they are very well socialized. They love to climb up and sit on shoulders and curl up in laps. They are now at the wild and crazy time of kittenhood- running, wrestling with each other, playing with toys, and climbing on beds and chairs! 1 Call 310-207-3156 with the Animal ID# & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to bring your kittens home!

LEILA - #A1943789 5 year old spayed female, 6 lbs. Leila is such a love! This 5 year old black and white gal was surrendered back on July 9 due to another pet in the house. During her stay at the shelter, Leila has been an absolute sweetheart . She was initially a bit nervous in the visiting room, but has quickly learned that coming out of her cage equates to lots of love and affection from our staff. She now walks around the room with confidence and curiosity! She adores h...ead scratches and human company. Leila’s other hobbies include snuggling up on a soft blanket for a nap , making biscuits and eating treats. Leila is a lovely, low-energy companion who would love to curl up next to you and watch your favorite movie. If you’re interested in making Leila a part of your family, please follow the steps below: 1 Call 1-888-452-7381 with her Animal ID #A1943789 & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to bring Leila home!

10/18 UPDATE: ARIES HAS BEEN RESCUED BY Woofy Acres! If you made a pledge, thank you! You can send your donate here: https://woofy-acres.com/donations/ Courtesy Post - SOS URGENT ARIES #A1935288 ONLY HAS UNTIL END OF THE DAY (10.18) TO BE RESCUED FROM East Valley Animal Shelter! ... Aries's story is a heartbreaking one. Only 3 years old and 56 lbs., he got out of his home with his sister Athena on April 28. We don’t have details of the incident, but tragically their escape resulted in multiple bites to humans and Athena killing a small dog. (The bites likely occurred when people tried to stop them from grabbing the little dog.) When Aries arrived at the shelter, he was a healthy, high energy pup, but it appears he injured his leg in June from jumping around in his kennel. His injuries are too severe for the shelter to treat at this point, and he needs medical attention immediately. He can’t put weight on his hind leg and amputation is almost certain. His leg is wrapped every day or every other day, and the vet at the shelter feels it is inhumane to keep him in this condition. You can see his leg injury here: https://youtu.be/UaZdz3MRr_4 Due to the incident, Aries is only available to 501(c)(3) rescue groups and is not available to the public. He must reside outside of L.A. City. If you can help, please contact: LA Animal Services - East Valley Shelter 14409 Vanowen Street Van Nuys, CA 91405 Phone Number: (888) 452-7381

JINGLES - #A1954983 5 year old female, 4 lbs. Happy Saturday from sweet Jingles This little cutie came in as a shy stray and spent her first few days hiding. She’s now become a staff favorite! Jingles is described as a sweet cat and rubs up on everything, wanting affection. She came in underweight, but is slowly gaining weight. The only medical problem our staff has observed is dental tartar, so a vet visit and teeth cleaning is recommended upon adoption. Loud noises and ...quick movement still startle Jingles, but she’s gaining confidence every day. She has never shown signs of aggression or behavior issues. If you are interested in making Jingles a part of your family, please follow the following steps: 1 Call 1-888-452-7381 with her Animal ID #A1954983 & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to bring Jingles home!

Second plea for Fiona #A1860656 4 year old spayed female; 11 lbs. Great with other cats; previously lived in a community room with adult males and females Assisted in fostering a kitten while in foster care herself... Described as very motherly and sweet with the kitten - the pictures say it all Shy and reserved, but made so much progress in foster care Low maintenance & easy going Searching for compassionate and patient adopter or foster to change her life Read more about Fiona from one of our lovely volunteers who knew her best! Fiona was lucky enough to have received the gift of a foster home. But Fiona has been returned and has been waiting patiently AT WEST LA SHELTER since AUGUST 29th. Judging by the photo, it’s easy to see she needs to get back into the comfort of a home. Fiona’s foster was wise enough to give her the space to find peace and heal from painful experiences none of us can know because she entered into the shelter in May of 2019 as a stray and she wasn’t talking. Fiona is incredibly sweet but achingly shy and needs a patient parent. In her first stint in the shelter, over the course of six months, volunteers slowly built up her confidence and we began to witness the months of progress take flight and then the shutdown hit. Fiona soon found courage in a foster home that had simple expectations of her to just breathe and carry on. And while Fiona is still quite unsure of human touch, (who can blame her when she lost volunteer engagement and 5 months in a foster home only to be returned), Fiona craved her fosters’ love by sleeping near them, chatting and playing, being curious and completely and utterly falling for her foster brother. Her motherly guidance, endless patience and shared positive experiences with her little man gave her strength and allowed her a chance to enjoy the simple pleasures like cuddling up to someone special. It’s time Fiona find her place and purpose in a home. And this time, let’s make it forever. BROWNIE - #A1776845 8 yrs. old, 38 lbs. Neutered Male Today, we’d like to introduce you to Brownie, a mellow, affectionate medium-sized pup who is currently in foster and in search of his forever home. ... This handsome boy was picked up in a field and brought to the Harbor Animal Shelter, San Pedro on 7/18/20. He was microchipped, but the contact never responded to the shelter. During his intake exam, the staff noted his teeth were yellow and worn down, but he appeared to be in good health otherwise. Brownie has been absolutely loving a break from shelter life, and his foster of five weeks has already learned so many great things about this little angel: "Brownie is so sweet and loving. He's always wagging his tale and will lick your hand. He loves, loves, being pet. He will push up against me if you stop petting. He even sometimes reaches his paw out to grab me for more petting. Brownie is very well behaved in the home. He is a good listener and wants my attention. He won't chew up things in the home. He follows me around the home." To see more of Brownie, check out these links: Highlight Reel: https://youtu.be/lPu7_6S9Kc4 Foster & Brownie Intv: https://youtu.be/aAjlc61vpgw Additional Foster Notes: * house-trained * no separation anxiety. Brownie’s been alone for no more than one hour at a time; from foster's pet cams, he saw no issues. * Don't know if Brownie is crate trained. He has free roam of house & sleeps with foster in bed at night. *Has become more active in last 2 weeks as he’s now more comfortable in foster home. Doesn't fetch but will run if you run. *Favorite activities: going on walks and being pet *Brownie is kept indoors only. He has access to the backyard where he loves to explore. * He’s walked two times a day and likes to walk fast and pulls lightly. If he sees a person on the other side on a leash, Brownie will start heading right over to them. Dog Experience: Brownie had a playdate with a big dog Belinda at Harbor Shelter. Staff said he was "gentle, sweet, and calm in the yard. Both dogs were respectful of each other. They exchanged sniffs and followed each other around the yard." Due to Covid, foster has had minimal contact with other dogs. "He's been friendly on walks with a few but some he barks at." Recommended Home: According to foster, Brownie's "perfect home" might be one with another dog his size or larger (dog can be playful but not pushy). The other dog would give him companionship and help him gain confidence. He's such a love bug, maybe a child who will give him lots of attention. For those people working from home, Brownie hangs out on his doggy bed while foster is on computer. If you're interested in meeting Brownie with his foster at a Meet & Greet, please contact: Angela Springer, Harbor Foster Volunteer 310-717-2442 Thanks for sharing!

MYA - #A1954228 10 year old spayed female, 13 lbs., Domestic LH What a face Meet Mya! This 10 year old beauty was surrendered on September 30 due to allergies. She has the most expressive face and knows she is a queen who deserves the best in life! Her long white coat is absolutely stunning and accentuates her pink nose and green eyes Mya is described as sweet and affectionate by our staff, but a little head shy from treatment. She has a skin condition around the eye tha...t is getting better slowly (there is nothing wrong with her eye). Mya loves to be held and pet, and is clearly used to people and a home environment. Despite being a curvy gal, she has no issues using the small litter box in her cage and she is not a picky eater Mya will need some dental work upon adoption or rescue, as she has missing/broken teeth and gingivitis. Nothing out of the ordinary for a cat her age! Mya is stunning both inside and out, and we hope someone will give her the second chance she needs soon! If you are interested in making Mya a part of your family, please follow the following steps: 1 Call 1-888-452-7381 with her Animal ID #A1954228 & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to bring Mya home!

STAFF FAVORITE // MEDICAL ALERT NIX - #A1947767 1 year old neutered male, 9 lbs., Tabby Nix is a one year old love bug who has quickly become a shelter staff favorite! He was surrendered back on September 12th and is ready to start his new life outside the shelter! He lets you pick him up and handle him ok. He is very affectionate! Nix is incredibly playful and spunky as well. He loves balls of all shapes and sizes! He was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer about 2 months a...go. His eye looks better and there is very little to no drainage now. Our Vet recommends he see an eye specialist upon rescue or adoption. Nix has no other health issues. He doesn’t like his eyes messed with and it is difficult to treat his eyes, but honestly we can’t blame him! He is not aggressive about it, he just just tries to get away. Nix is not picky with his food and uses his litter box all the time. This youngster is a fabulous, well-rounded cat with a bright future ahead For all interested rescues or adopters, please follow the following steps: 1 Call 1-888-452-7381 with his Animal ID #A1947767 & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to bring Nix home!

CAMERON - #A1815486 4 yrs. old, 60 lb. Neutered Male *** RESCUE ONLY - Available since November 2019! ***... Cameron first came to the @West LA Animal Shelter - LA Animal Services at the end of 2018 and was with us for quite a while before being adopted. During that time, we quickly learned he was smart, affectionate, appeared to be crate-trained, and was treat-motivated. We were even able to walk him with other dogs; he'd be very excited at first, but once he calmed down, he could meet them appropriately! Despite being an adorable and eager-to-please pup, this volunteer favorite was sadly overlooked by potential owners time and time again because he was highly stressed (jumping and barking)in his kennel. The constant barking and lack of daily exercise were really tough on this sensitive boy, and it really took its toll on him. So we are just heartbroken that his young, playful and affectionate boy has been back at the shelter since Oct. 2019. He had been adopted a few months earlier by a person living on the streets and was used as a guard dog ... and bit. Knowing Cameron, we can understand why he made bad choices being put in such awful circumstances. Cameron was transferred to Friends of North Central Shelter - Los Angeles Animal Services a few months later, and then transferred again to Chesterfield Square Animal Services Center when North was shut due to Covid. Not surprisingly, Cameron is not doing well being cooped up during all this time. He's still a young, healthy boy who truly deserves a rescue to give him a second shot at finding a loving, stable and peaceful home. For more info, please read his post below and click on his ID #A1815486 to see additional photos and videos! Please share and/or pledge if you can!

LA Animal Services has announced a new program to help people rehome their pets themselves so the animal never has to come into the shelter, which is almost always a very stressful experience. The other big benefit is that the owner can give interested parties plenty of information to make sure their pet is the right fit. It's a win-win, so please share!

WILEY OTIS - #A1478459 6 yrs. old, 64 lb. Neutered Male **** YELLOW ALERT RESCUE NEEDED ASAP! ****... Our sweet, spunky and handsome Wiley Otis has been waiting for a new home for OVER 16 MONTHS at the West LA Shelter - Los Angeles Animal Services! When he first arrived back in June 2019, he was understandably fearful and nervous. But he’s come such a long way since that time and shown staff and volunteers alike how smart, gentle, and affectionate he is. To see Wiley in action, check out his video: https://youtu.be/8ZORRBqFOeE Wiley can be shy meeting new people, but once he warms up, he leans in for love! He knows sit, down and shake, is treat motivated and takes treats very gently. He pulls a bit on leash but is eager to please and will certainly improve with daily training. He has a playful side and is such a joy to watch when he gets the zoomies or chase a ball. But once he’s had a chance to run off some energy, he’s a mellow boy who loves belly rubs, back rubs and getting brushed. Prior to the shutdown, Wiley was introduced to two balanced and tolerant dogs on leash and displayed playful interest. He showed a tendency to be dominant when he got excited, but responded very well to correction with a spray bottle. He’d probably do best with someone who can further his socialization skills before living with another big dog. See his dog intro video here: https://youtu.be/uUY0Y-1KhZs Wiley was surrendered after he bit one of the owner’s children on the arm after the child unintentionally startled him. (He'd lived with the family for several years.) In spite of this, we believe he'll do well with an experienced handler with no children in the home who gives him plenty of time to decompress after living at the shelter for so long. Wiley is healthy and neutered and really needs out of the shelter ASAP. If you can help him or would like more information, please call 310.207.3156 or email: [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. (They work on different shifts.) Please share and let’s save this boy! He's waiting long enough!

Foster Update // Meet Cookie #A1943842 Cookie is a gorgeous 2 year old boy who weighs 14 pounds. His striking green eyes and beautiful grey coat instantly draw you in. He arrived at the ARF Harbor Shelter in July, and has spent the last two months in a foster home. He is a shy guy but is slowly making progress thanks to his patient foster. His foster even bought him some toys we recommend to help him come out of his shell We have had wonderful success stories come from t...hose who adopt a shy animal and provide the patience and love needed to help them blossom. We hope the same for Cookie! His foster tells us: Cookie is an extremely shy cat. He would do best in a quiet household with no children. He visibly shakes when more than 1-2 people are present. He takes quite awhile to trust, but has warmed up to my teen son. We try to leave him alone, but we sit in the room with him and do other work so he's not totally alone. He sleeps during the day and explores at night. I think he would do well with a calm, older adult who can give him the time and space to come out of his shell. From the pictures his foster sent, Cookie appears to be making progress and seems relaxed and content in a home If you’re interested in adopting Cookie, please follow the following steps: 1 Call 1-888-452-7381 with his Animal ID #A1943842 & LAAS will share all the information available. 2 If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LAAS will take your information and complete the adoption paperwork by phone. 3 LA Animal Services will schedule a pick-up appointment for you to Cookie home!
