Hello social media world! ~ It’s day 4 and it’s my next CLINIC day!! I’ve got some follow ups and what I like to call graduation day for patients so watch the stories to stay caught up! . .... . WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE A SURGEON??? . . Woof...Getting here took a lot of HARD work. A good surgeon has to work hard to attain that work-life balance! . Having a good support system outside my work is extremely important! Luckily my husband has a wonderful understanding and can manage my stressful job. I got lucky since he was a firefighter in the past so he understands the no 9- 5 job. . . There are days where you are physically and intellectually challenged and it can definitely wear on you but even through doubt, exhaustion and annoyance...I’ve always been good at just pushing through the grind, finding your grit to stay persistent and to always remember ... this patient is trusting you, they are scared and hope you can help them get back to their life. That’s a big deal to them so it should be a big deal to me. . Stay invested in always being sensitive to your patients! ~ ~ ~ Be their HERO! Stay educated, do what’s right for the patient, keep your head up, wait 24hrs before responding to something that’s frustrating and always try to re-evaluate if you could have done this better, smarter, or with more ease. ~ Thursday is my fav day... why ?? because that means tomorrow is Friday!!! Hello social media world! ~ ~ Dr. Adrienne Estes here for what looks to be a beautiful day 3 ! Today is CLINIC day!! . Be sure to watch our stories and see what we are up to over here!... . . . Yes, although we are not in the ER or ICU often we still get our fair share of COVID patients! I’ve had plenty... . . We have to mask up, double glove, wear shoe covers, use a bunny suit, N-95 and for extra measures a second mask on top of that .... all to see a patient. It’s obviously uncomfortable but we do what we can to limit exposure but also to continue to see our patients. ~ ~ ~ Did you know there’s a thing as COVID toe????? . . You would see painful red inflammation with red-purple tender or itchy bumps that are developing mostly on the toes. The skin almost resembles chilblains which is a type of rash that typically is associate with exposure to cold conditions. This finding has been a potential sign that you may have COVID-19 and may be infectious! ~ ~ Rock out! It’s Wednesday, half way there!! See more

To bring it all home, here are the 3rd and 4th year SGA Representatives. These folks have been excellent student advocates and representatives of the college. Great work! #Humanism #DiscoverPodiatricMedicine #WesternUWay #WesternICPM

Saving the best for last, here is my support system. Being able to have my friends and family in SoCal with me has been a blessing. They lift me up when I am down and cheer me on from afar. Having people believe in you even when you don’t believe in yourself sometimes can go a long way. Although the journey only gets tougher from here, I am excited for the future with this team right by my side. Thank you for everything, I appreciate every single one of you so much! That will conclude my Instagram takeover. Thank you for tuning in, I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Self care?! These are just some of the fun things I did over the past couple years (on the weekends mostly) as a break from studying. I found it essential to take breaks when I could, it gave me something to look forward to after a week of hard work studying or in clinic! Pictured here are some hikes I did with friends and family. I also liked to bike and run with them whenever I could, it gave me time to get some sun and fresh air. Simple things like that, I noticed I take f...or granted since school started. My classmates and I also like to watch sports together whenever we can! Other than that, i’d like to share my mvps during quarantine: my Nespresso machine for long days and my protein powders (like oatmeal and peanut butte cookie) following a home workout video on YouTube. I know it’s not much, but I try my best to appreciate the little things! See more

I woke up at 4AM and drove out to to RUHS for a 5:30 Orthopedic Surgery rotation with a classmate and a PA student also on the rotation. As you can see, we have our face masks on like everybody else. Covid-19 changed our clinical rotation experiences in a variety of ways. Luckily, WesternU has provided us with a bag full of protective equipment so we were fully prepared to start on time. There was great uncertainty for us because we were fully online up until august, finishin...g up our 2nd year didactic exams and taking our board exams. Our rotations have provided us experiences at limited capacities, due to hospital and clinic restrictions/guidelines, but we have been able to make the most of it. The orthopedic surgery rotation is just 1 of many great rotations here offered in our curriculum to help us grow towards becoming foot and ankle surgeons. On wednesdays, we have online didactic sessions (picture2). Some classmates in the area like to link up, catch up, and learn together! Conferences have also moved online, offering students, faculty, and professionals the opportunity to attend from anywhere with safety as the main priority. We do what we can during these challenging times, knowing that we will become stronger by the end of it. To conclude this long post, I also included pictures of some study handbooks, a foot model, and suture kit which I have used extensively to prepare for clinic. I’m a little tired, but I’m having blast doing what I love with the best people around! See more

I can’t wait to look back at this picture in a couple years. By then, we will be residents, wow. This was welcome week for the class of 2022, in 2018. What stands out to me is the excitement and nerves we all had at the very beginning. These past few years have been intense to say the least. We have gone through so much together and as a result, we grew close to eachother. WesternU podiatry blessed me with this family and I am so grateful to be a part of it. The following are 9 of my favorite pictures that I dug up from the archives to share with y’all. Essentially it’s my classmates and I having a blast at WesternU: community outreach events, professional club events/fundraisers, workshops, and holiday festivities! I can’t wait to build more memories with this class!

Hello everybody! My name is Justin Luu and I will be running the Instagram takeover for this week. This week, I will share a little bit about my life and how it is as a podiatric medical student at WesternU! Here’s a quick introduction on myself: I am born and raised in sunny San Diego. I graduated from Del Norte High School and University of California, Riverside (UCR) with a B.S. in Biology. I am currently a 3rd year. I was a part of UCR’s Sports Medicine team as an intern for a couple years and learned about podiatry from my health professions advisor. I then went to shadow a podiatrist in San Diego, who quickly became my mentor. This was where my podiatry journey began, and the rest is history!
