Small businesses are struggling to survive, trying to get reestablished. If this thing passes, many people will not even try to reopen. Just forget it. The last thing California needs is another tax increase. #NoOnProp15

Every time we feed our families, enjoy a glass of wine or put on our jeans in the morning - we’re bonded with a farmer. They’re economists, environmentalists, meteorologist, conservationists, CEOs, COOs and everything in between. They’re also parents, grandparents, community members, c...oaches, teachers and mentors. They’re resilient, faithful and full of grit. They’re the backbone of our communities and the the heartbeat of America. Farmers - today we celebrate YOU. Thank you!

#NoOnProp15 While Zuckerberg has the right to spend his vast Facebook wealth as he sees fit, using it to punish small businesses fighting for a fraction of his success is wrong.

Proposition 15 is arguably the most significant state measure on the Nov. 3 ballot. What California really needs is a complete overhaul of its ludicrously outdated tax system. Proposition 15 doesn’t do it.

Without question, the most immediate impact that homeowners would see if Proposition 15 passes would be an increase in the cost of living. Prop 15 will push small minority- and immigrant-owned businesses out of our communities when they can’t afford Prop 15’s higher property taxes. This unintended consequence will intensify the gentrification already occurring in much of the Bay Area and Southern California coastal counties. Data analyzed by the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research found a 41 percent drop nationwide in the number of Black business owners between February and April 2020. Latino owned businesses sunk by 32 percent and Asian-owned businesses decreased by 26 percent. Despite these staggering numbers, Prop 15 will raise rents on the surviving businesses during an unprecedented economic crisis. Nothing in Prop 15 prevents higher rents for small businesses. Increasing propert...y taxes on small businesses by up to $11.5 billion a year will hurt female- and minority-owned businesses the most and, according to studies by the California State Conference of the NAACP and Berkeley Research Group. One study even concludes 120,000 private-sector jobs will be lost and that was before the pandemic.
