West Downey Little League Family We wanted to share an update to the 2021 Spring Season. We continue to wait until the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updates the resumption of Youth Sports. On Jan 26th the current CDPH order stopping competitive sports expires and we expect updated direction. Our resumption plan is READY TO GO and as mentioned previously the CDPH has indicated that baseball will be one of the first youth sports to return to competitive action ...due to its moderate contact. Make sure the kids are out playing catch, taking some swings, and working on their best pitches. Let’s be ready to get back on the field as quickly and safely as possible. We will announce registration and more details hopefully shortly. Stay safe - stay healthy - so we can stop the spread and get back to playing ball. Thank you for all the memories, the smiles, tears, and making Dodger Baseball what it is. You encouraged many of us who fell in love with the game and continued to admire your love of it even when the seasons didn’t turn out like we wanted. And we loved seeing you there as the Dodgers won the World Series this year. That made it perfect!... You once said There are three types of baseball players: Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen and those who wonder what happens. You made it happen and we hope you enjoy the next game with that Big Dodger in the sky. Rest In Peace Tommy

West Downey Little League Family We wanted to share some recent information from the State of California. On Dec 14th the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released new guidance for the resumption of Youth Sports. The CDPH has broken down sports based on their contact level. Baseball has been categorized as a moderate contact sport and as such will be allowed to return to competitive action upon the county returning to a RED TiER of the state’s quarantine system.... As you are all aware, we in LA County are currently in the most restrictive PURPLE TIER. With the efforts of our community and vaccines being introduced, we believe that we will return to the RED TIER in the beginning of 2021 which will allow us to return to playing baseball. We are sure there maybe other hurdles with LA County Department of Health and we will continue to monitor those discussions. We will return to the game we all love, there undoubtedly will be new rules and procedures put in place to play as safe as possible. West Downey LL Family We have been hoping that the 2020 Baseball Season would have been able to resume by now. We have heard from many parents wanting to get their kids out playing, exercising, and playing the sport they love. We agree and put plans into place to be able to create an environment where our kids would be able to be back on the field. Granted it would have been modified BUT they would have been back playing. However the Governor and the California Department of... Public Health yesterday specifically dictated that outdoor ..sporting events, assemblies, and other activities ..are not permitted at this time. ..competitions, regardless of whether teams are from the same school ..are not permitted. Based off of this direction the potential of resuming a season anytime soon would be prohibitive. We are heart broken that in the first time in our over 63 year history we will not have a season for our kids. These are unique times and the health and safety of our kids comes first. We will be ready to return to the field as soon as the State will allow us to do so. Please look for an email for further details regarding the 2020 season and our preparation for the 2021 Season. Friends & Family The STAND is up! And we will be opening on Wednesday JULY 1st Corner of Old River School Road and Stewart & Gray Road... This is our largest fundraiser of the year that helps us keep Registration fees the lowest in the area. Registration fees nearly covers uniforms, insurance, LL league fees but there is more we need to keep the league going from umpires, equipment, maintenance, utility costs, and more. For example - in a year we may go thru 60 cases of balls alone - at near $40 a case that adds up quick! So we rely on fundraising, our snack shack and donations... Please come out and support West Downey Little League. Every dollar we raise goes back into the league to help keep our registration low and support as many kids playing as possible. If interested in volunteering for the Firework Stand or helping in the league please let us know. We are 100% Volunteer and every bit helps! One Community - One Family West Downey Little League
