Hi there, it's been a while since we've introduced ourselves. We're WCUI School of Medical Imaging and Nursing We've been providing education to the next generation of health care professionals for over 20 years! Education is the core of what we do and our faculty and staff are our backbone. Together we share the same goal of helping our students gain skills and knowledge to build a career - and ultimately their dream. We have three campuses - Los Angeles, California, On...tario, California, and Phoenix, Arizona - which are all nationally accredited by ACCSC. We offer Bachelor and Associates degree programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Cardiovascular Sonography, an Associates degree program in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Diploma programs in Vocational Nursing at our California campuses, Practical Nursing at our Arizona campus, and an advanced Pediatric Cardiac Ultrasound for experienced cardiovascular sonographers. We also have a WCUI Continuing Medical Education division that specializes in helping healthcare professionals continue their education and learn new skills! Including Point-of-Care-Ultrasound courses catered to non-sonographers to enhance their patient care, a full CME library and webinars to help healthcare professionals stay up-to-date with industry-driven activities, and Customized Corporate Training to help hospitals, clinics, and more get the ultrasound training they need to take their business to the next level. (Learn more at wcui.edu/cme/) Phew! A big introduction and that's just half of it. We'd like to get to know you - introduce yourself in the comments!

On Thursday, June 17, 2021 President Biden signed legislation to make Juneteenth, June 19th, a federal holiday. This is a great step in recognizing and learning from our history, and the impact it has on our country’s Black Americans. We are unable to transition our calendar at this time to acknowledge the new federal holiday, but we are working on our future Academic Calendars for 2022 and beyond to add this National Holiday and fully allow our students, staff, and faculty a... time to reflect. The History of Juneteenth + It’s Importance: Although the Emancipation Proclamation declared all enslaved people in the Confederate states were legally free, only through the 13th Amendment. The Emancipation Proclamation could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control, like Texas. On June 19, 1965 - two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were told they were free. Juneteenth is celebrated every June 19th, to commemorate the long overdue independence and freedom of over 250,000 enslaved people in the state. Juneteenth is an important day to recognize the lasting impact slavery has made on our fellow Americans and our country, and most importantly that the work towards equality and justice is not finished. We hope you spend some time learning more about Juneteenth and listening to others who have been impacted by injustice in our history. History despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again - Maya Angelou

Talking on mute during Zoom class, awkward. Not getting your ballot in, even more awkward. You have a right to make your voice heard through your right to vote! Make sure you are getting to the polls today so your opinions and beliefs are represented. By not getting your vote in, you may as well be talking on mute! Don't let yourself be caught on mute and get to the polls today if you haven't already! And most importantly, stay safe and mask up! ... Find out what you should bring to the polls for California and Arizona residents here: https://wcui.edu/blog-post/vote-2020/

When we say ultrasound can be used from head to toe and beyond, we really mean it! Our students are learning to scan the whole body, from assessing blood flow in the neck through carotid imaging, to measuring the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys during an abdominal ultrasound, assessing ovarian cysts or ovarian cancer during pelvic exams, and even imaging joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves to help diagnose sprains, tears, or arthritis. Sonographers can see it all......in the DARK! Are you afraid of the dark? Don't be! Sonographers are friendly, caring, and are often the first people to know exactly what you are going through. Thank you to all the sonographers out there for your continued dedication to this important profession, whether you're currently a student at WCUI, in externship about to graduate, or a seasoned sonographer you are appreciated! #MedicalUltrasoundAwarenessMonth If you're interested in learning more about the pathways to becoming a sonographer and the many different career paths available, our admissions team is here to help. Meet Karen Ambrowitz, MPH, RDMS, RDCS (AE, PE, FE) she is the Assistant Program Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Ultrasound and Congenital Heart Disease Program (PedECHO) at WCUI and has been helping lead the Pediatric Cardiac program at WCUI for over 12 years! In addition to her work at WCUI, she has been the technical director of the Pediatric Echocardiography Lab at Mattel Children’s Hospital at #UCLA Medical Center since 2005. Karen has practiced in the pediatric and f...etal echocardiography field since 1997 working at prestigious medical institutions in New York City, Denver, and Los Angeles. In addition, she has an extensive background in teaching and curriculum writing, having taught at the first Diagnostic Medical Sonography Bachelor’s Degree program at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Karen also co-wrote the curriculum for the pediatric cardiac ultrasound program at WCUI. Karen has a true enthusiasm for teaching in the classroom, (and now online!) and in a laboratory setting. She is thrilled to be leading another class of future pediatric echocardiologists. Karen recognizes the growing need for skilled #echocardiologists who can recognize underlying cardiac pathology, like #CongenitalHeartDisease, in their infant, child, and adolescent patients. She has helped grow the program so that we can help students help save pediatric lives. If you are an echocardiologist and have completed an adult #CardiovascularSonography program, you may be interested in our 9-month PedECHO program. Our #LosAngeles and #Ontario, California campuses are currently enrolling for hybrid, weekend classes! "Never stop. One day you'll be someone's hope, someone's hero" #mondaymotivation Why did you go back to school? Why did you want to be a sonographer, a nurse, or MRI technologist? Did you want to make a difference? When the classes are tough or you're having trouble mastering a protocol in the lab, sometimes we need to ask ourselves these questions and remember our purpose. What you learn at WCUI will have an impact on someone's health and someone's life. So keep studying! Keep your head up! You're learning something important. You are important

Our grads wear pink and yes you can sit with them (if you can keep up!) Our education at WCUI has not stopped in 2020 because our students and graduates do not quit! They have chosen a field in ultrasound, nursing, or MRI for a reason and a pandemic is definitely not slowing them down. Through the combination of online lecture classes, virtual labs, hands-on labs with PPE, and externship placements at hospitals and clinical sites, we are providing our students the education t...hey want and need to pursue their careers in healthcare. We are thrilled to be a part of our student's education and support their reason "Why I'm a Nurse", "Why I'm a Sonographer" and "Why I'm an MRI technologist"! And we can't wait to see what they will do next. #knowledgebuildscareers Photo provided by: 2020 Los Angeles campus Vocational Nursing graduate, Shalom H. Photographer: Shot by Karra Photography

October celebrates two critical awareness campaigns #MedicalUltrasoundAwarenessMonth which spread awareness of the important role sonographers play and the many uses of ultrasound in healthcare and #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth which brings to light the importance of women’s health, research, and advancements in the field to cure and detect breast cancer. Did you know that along with a mammogram, breast ultrasound is used to produce pictures of the internal structures of the b...reast? Breast Ultrasound is primarily used to help diagnose breast lumps or other abnormalities that may have been found during a physical exam, mammogram, or breast MRI. It also lets your healthcare provider see how well blood is flowing to areas in your breasts. Nearly 1 in 8 women in the US are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. And although it is rare, it is estimated that 2,620 men in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. Early detection is critical to increasing your survival rate! In addition to regular clinical exams, adults, especially women and those assigned female at birth, are encouraged to perform breast self-exams every month. So start checking on yourself today and take care of your health! For more information about how ultrasound assist in the fight against breast cancer and women's health, as well as, resources about breast self-exams visit our blog: https://wcui.edu//breast-ultrasound-and-how-it-is-used-to/
