Wegeforth Elementary 14.11.2020

Good evening Wegeforth parents, First I would like to thank the parents who have already set up their PowerSchool Parent Portals and have submitted their LCFF forms! Most of our parents have not yet set up their PowerSchool Parent Portal. I'm reaching out to you, asking if you will please contact Lourdes Cueva at [email protected] to obtain directions and login information to set up your Parent Portal. Not only will you be able to view your child's report cards, but you can ...also look at attendance. You will be able to view your child's report card during parent-teacher conferences, but if you want to view it after that, you can view it in Parent Portal. In addition to viewing your child's school information, and what is of utmost importance now, is your access to the Local Control Funding Formula, or LCFF, form. The information that the district gleans from this form determines the level of funding that Wegeforth utilizes to provide supports all of our students. This school year, we received a little over $20,000 in LCFF funding. This amount was determined based on nearly 100% of our parents completing the LCFF form last school year. So far this year, less than 50% of Wegeforth parents have completed and submitted this form. The reason that I am addressing these two subjects together is because the LCFF form can be easily accessed, completed and submitted through Parent Portal. I was able to put some paper LCFF forms in materials packets this morning, but not all of them. If you received a paper LCFF form, please complete it in PENCIL, do not fold or staple it, and slide it through the mail slot in the front office door. The more confidential way to submit this form is to set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal, complete and submit the form. We also need all of our parents who have set up their Parent Portal to access the LCFF form, complete and submit it. Again, if you have not set up your Parent Portal, please contact Lourdes Cueva so that she can provide you with your unique login information and instructions on setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal. The level of supports that we provide for all students will be inordinately impacted if we were to receive only half the funds that we normally receive. I thank you in advance for completing this form. Have a wonderful evening. Sincerely, Mrs. Sandoval, Principal

Dear Kearny Cluster Elementary Families, We have received news regarding the future reopening of our school and all schools within San Diego Unified. District planners have outlined the next phases for that reopening and announced plans to release a timeline for the next phase, following the next County Health Department update on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Behind every student and teacher eager to be back on campus, we know there is a family concerned about the health and sa...Continue reading

Good morning Wegeforth community, Tomorrow, we will have our weekly morning assembly. During our morning assembly, we will be reviewing some norms around Zoom meetings, and we'll have a special guest who will remind us about the importance of getting enough exercise weekly. I will hold the annual Wegeforth Title 1 Parent Meeting on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30. The Zoom ID is 841 5532 8656 and the password is title 1, all lowercase letters and the number 1. This meeting wil...l last approximately 30 minutes and all of our Wegeforth and Serra Mesa Community are invited to attend. As you may recall, our district has designated three calls to action, all involving the educational equity of different groups. We have developed a Site Equity Team, and our first meeting will be this week. Keeping the equity of all of our students in the forefront of our work is especially important during online learning. Friday, October 23rd, is the first day of Red Ribbon Week! It's actually longer than a week; it runs from October 23rd through the 31st. I will be sending out parent pledges on Friday, and teachers will have students complete pledges that day as well. The pledges are around teaching our children about drugs and how to live healthy lives, and our students pledging to lead healthy lives. We will have a Spirit Day next Monday, October 26th: Red Ribbon Day - Wear All Red Day! We will also have a guest speaker at our Morning Assembly next week, who will talk about the significance of Red Ribbon Week. Due to the pandemic, we cannot hold our annual Monster Mash. However, your teachers and PTA wouldn't let you down! We're planning a Monster Mash Lite event for the afternoon of October 30th. Get those funny and original costumes ready! Remember - no scary masks. More details will follow, and it's sure to be great fun! Have a wonderful Sunday and thank you for your time!

Good evening Wegeforth community, It is my hope that you received the Kearny Elementary Principals' letter that I sent last week, which was an introduction to appointment-based student site visits. I wanted to provide you with an update. This week some of our staff began contacting parents to schedule special education assessments, which is the first step in our Phase 1 Appointment-Based In-Person sessions. We are now looking at the next step in our Phase 1 Reopening, which... would be providing instructional support to small groups of students whose data indicates the need. Please know that many of our staff have significant health considerations, that are either their own or that of those they care for, which prevent them from safely being involved in appointment-based in-person sessions. We are very fortunate, however, because all of our virtual classrooms are filled with love, attention and organized, standards-based instruction. It’s also worth noting that many of our families do not wish to return to onsite learning, and we are committed to continuing to provide rigorous online instruction and meaningful, timely feedback for all children. All of our students participating in in-person appointments must be able to consistently wear a mask throughout the appointment. Parents will be provided with an opt-in letter that must be signed and returned, as well as daily symptom checklists that must be completed prior to leaving home. The daily symptom at-home checks will include temperature-taking. On-site, we have a plethora of precautions in place: a handwashing station as one enters, signage indicating which direction to move around campus, reminders about maintaining 6’ between everyone and frequent handwashing, hand sanitizer to use before entering and upon exiting any room, as well as physical distancing measures inside student restrooms. There is one designated entrance to campus, as well as one designated exit from campus. This is not an all-inclusive list. During this initial stage, we will be collecting data on the effectiveness of our precautions and making adjustments as needed. In order to keep appointments running smoothly, parents will be asked to remain at school, either in their cars or in our Community Reading Garden. Appointments will be between 45 minutes to 1 hour in length at this point, which is why we would ask this of parents. We will not be able to allow parents to enter campus, which makes our Community Reading Garden an even more valuable asset than before. I do know that this is an incredibly difficult time for us all. The staff at Wegeforth is immensely grateful for all of the support that you are providing to your children during online learning. Thank you for your time, and have a wonderful evening.

Good morning Wegeforth parents, I wanted to remind you that Tuesday, October 6th, is a minimum day. Live instruction will be reduced by about an hour and 20 minutes and asynchronous instruction will be reduced by about the same. The school day ends at 12:20, which is the same as our end time for minimum days when we are in the brick and mortar school. Have a great day!

Good afternoon Wegeforth parents, For our returning parents, you may recall that we included wellness tips once a month in our Tuesday packets before the district shutdown. We are now resuming that practice, which is more important now than ever. Attached to this post, on Class Dojo, and an email going out this afternoon, you will find a flyer titled, "Tips to Help Your Child Wear a Mask." We will send out wellness flyers periodically.... Thank you for your time and have a wonderful afternoon.

Good afternoon Wegeforth parents, This is Mrs. Sandoval calling about a very important task. Yesterday, you received information about submitting the annual Local Control Funding Formula information. This information is required each year because this is the mechanism for generating our Title 1 and LCFF funds. This information is also key in maintaining the free breakfast and lunch program at Wegeforth. It is crucial for Wegeforth's ongoing efforts for improving student out...comes for all parents to submit this information. If you have your Parent Portal user ID and password, but haven't set up your portal yet, I've attached a job aid in English and Spanish to this email. If you have not received the information needed to set up your Parent Portal, please email Mrs. Cueva, our Elementary School Assistant, at [email protected]. Completing this task as soon as possible will be greatly appreciated by the entire Wegeforth community! Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.
