The Howler Newsletter - November 2020 https://mailchi.mp/6efe4a18eb70/november-newsletter Principal Message: Dear Coyote Ridge Families,... Fall is in full swing! We are reminded how quickly the weather can change and have recently experienced brisk, cooler mornings and strong winds. Please plan ahead and prepare your child by dressing them in layers. The cool mornings do warm up to very nice afternoons, so it is always helpful to make sure you label your child's jacket in case they take it off and becomes misplaced. Our "lost and found" tends to overflow during the cooler months. If items have names labeled inside, we can find their owner. Before School Drop Off - To help with a smooth, drop off at curbside, please have your child ready to exit the car with jacket on and backpack in hand. I have noticed that some parents/guardians are getting out of their vehicle to help their child with their belongings, which causes a major backup in our parking lot. Additionally, it's important for our families to use the designated crosswalks and for vehicles to maintain a slow speed when driving in our parking lot. Thank you for doing your part in keeping everyone safe! Trimester 1 - It's hard to believe that Trimester 1 has already come to an end. I am very proud of all our students who have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time! I'm impressed that our students have adjusted so well to the various changes in the way we learn. We started the school year off in Distance Learning and then shifted into a hybrid schedule when it was safe to do so. Our families seemed to transition seamlessly! There is nothing better than seeing our students back inside our classrooms with our amazing teachers teaching live lessons. I have seen so much growth and positivity in our students being back on campus. Conference Week - In case you missed the previous announcements, the Dry Creek Board of Trustees voted to move Conference Week from November to the week of January 11, 2021. Make sure to look for your child's report card that will be sent home on Friday, November 6th. Please sign and return the envelope to verify you have received it. Book Fair - This time of year we typically have our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Although it may look a little different, you can still shop at the book fair online virtually and support our Coyote Ridge library. Don't forget to mark your calendar for November 9-22. See details below in the newsletter and be sure to "Save the Date" for the opportunity to visit our online book fair! November brings a time of thanksgiving and I am reminded every year how thankful I am to have such an amazing group of students, families, teachers and staff! I truly love our Coyote Ridge community! Sincerely, Julie Herrmann, Principal

Don't forget! Daylight saving time ends...time to fall back. Set your clocks back 1 hour. "DST ends on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at 2:00 A.M. At this time, we fall back in the fall by setting clocks back one hour (i.e., gaining one hour)." - The Old Farmer's Almanac

Modified Day Information and Survey *Please Note: families with students attending our Sacramento County schools will be asked to participate in this same surv...ey at a later date due to our learning community just starting hybrid this week in grades TK-6, and 7 & 8th graders on 10/19.* Dear Dry Creek Families (Placer County Schools), On Tuesday, Placer County moved from the Red Tier to the Orange Tier, which is positive progress for the community. After a month of successful in-person instruction, the COVID-19 positivity case rates in our schools remain extremely low, supporting the goal of staying safe and staying open. With completing our fourth week of school in the AM/PM hybrid model and the movement of Placer County to the Orange Tier, we are preparing to safely transition to a Modified Day schedule as a measured approach to increasing instructional time and support for students. In a Modified Day schedule: All students are on campus for approximately four hours a day School starts in the morning at the regular start time Instructional time is increased and allows students to receive the majority of State required instructional minutes in-person vs. online Increased support services for students Students leave before lunch (Grab and Go Meals provided) Reduced co-mingling of cohorts vs. a full day, increasing the likelihood of schools staying open At last night's Board meeting, a school reopening update was presented (presentation link is available on our COVID-19 webpage: www.drycreekschools.us/covid19), including the Modified Day schedule. As the timing of transitioning to a Modified Day in Placer County is considered, we ask families with students attending one of our Placer County schools to participate in a brief survey. We understand taking another measured step toward full-day instruction may elicit a variety of feelings and emotions. Additionally, it may be an adjustment for families to re-arrange work, daycare, and other issues, which is why it is important for us to gather your feedback. Since our Sacramento County schools just returned to in-person instruction this week in the AM/PM Hybrid Model, we anticipate it will be at least several weeks before there is any consideration to move to a Modified Day in Antelope. We continue to meet with Placer County and Sacramento County Public Health officials every week. We have direct conversations with them regarding schools reopening, health protocols and guidelines, scenarios, and case rates in schools and the community. Therefore, currently, we are collecting responses from just our families who have students attending one of our schools located in Placer County. Families with students attending Sacramento County schools will be surveyed at a later date. This short survey will be collecting responses from October 16 until noon on October 20. Dry Creek Placer County Family Survey Link: https://forms.gle/7bMA8tX1wcDVRwTG9 Thank you for supporting the health and safety guidelines our campuses have implemented to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Many of our students have been struggling academically, socially, and emotionally during school closures. Returning to in-person instruction has made a big difference in their lives. We are proud to be one of the only districts regionally to have been able to provide over a month of in-person instruction for our students in the 2020-21 school year thus far. Dry Creek will continue to work toward reopening our schools full time. We believe safely implementing a Modified Day schedule is a big step forward in bringing a greater sense of normalcy back to our learning community and supporting our students’ academic, social, and emotional needs. Take care and be well,
