We Care honors Juneteenth as a time to both celebrate an extraordinary set of events in American history, and consider how far we've come from a time when Americans were enslaved -- and how far we still have to go as a nation on our path toward equity and equality. Please follow the link below to read a powerful reflection on the day by Amber Pierre, a talented therapist here at We Care. Wishing you and your family a Juneteenth filled with gratitude and remembrance. https://www.wecarechildren.org//upl/2021/06/Juneteenth.pdf

We Care knows that the more curious children are, the better they do academically in reading and math once they enter school, so we wanted to share a great article from zerotothree.org about how to foster your child's curiosity. You can read it at the link below. https://www.zerotothree.org//3505-nurturing-your-young-chi

In our preschool, We Care’s teachers help children get ready for the transition to kindergarten. This includes working on the child’s social-emotional and early literacy skills. Parents can also promote school readiness at home, and we wanted to share a wonderful resource to assist with this. The Kindergarten Countdown provides families with examples of fun and open-ended activities, was created by the Contra Costa County Library and can be accessed at the link below. https://ccclib.org/kindergarten-countdown/

We Care is honored to be partnering with Pacific Service Credit Union to support the work we do with young children receiving our mental health services. Pacific Service Credit Union’s generous donation allowed us to purchase art supplies and toys for our clinicians and therapists to use during play therapy. Allowing children who have been traumatized to express themselves in this safe way is the start to putting them on the path to a healthier, happier future. Thank you Pacific Service Credit Union!

Did you know that the Contra Costa County Library is celebrating Black History Month with fun activities for kids and much more? Just in case you didn’t, we wanted to share this wonderful (and free) resource with you. https://ccclib.org/black-history-month/

If anybody knows how endlessly curious kids are, it’s We Care’s Developmental and Mental Health Services staff. In our time with the children we serve whether in-person or virtually we are happily addressing so many questions! Sometimes, on topics that might surprise the adults in their lives. Knowing that children crave information, we think it’s important that parents talk about Black History month, especially in light of all that’s happened this past year. PBS put together a list of great ideas and ways to incorporate conversations about racism and discrimination all year long, not just in February.

While we are still mostly spending our time at home, We Care wanted to share an educational and fun resource with you. The National Museum of African American History and Culture believes meaningful museum learning can, and should, happen at every age. Their dedicated team of early childhood educators design fun, age-appropriate experiences and resources for children from birth to 8 years old. You can visit them by clicking the link below. https://nmaahc.si.edu/learn/early-childhood

We Care incorporates educational play into everything we do, and we love these words of wisdom from the wonderful Mr. Rogers!
