A distraught father approached Jesus in search of a miracle because his 12 year old daughter was dying. Not surprisingly Jesus agrees to help the worried dad. While on his way to the house to heal the young girl Jesus gets sidetracked by someone else in need of his attention. Meanwhile, word gets to Jesus and the worried father that the young girl had died. You can only imagine the sense of despair and hopelessness that father must have felt upon learning he and Jesus did not... make it back to the house in time to rescue his little girl from death. The father was ready to head home to deal with all that took place back home. Jesus sensing the hopelessness in the grieving father says, Do not be afraid any longer, only believe. Eventually Jesus gets to the house and raises the dead girl back to life. It took faith for this father to go to Jesus and request his presence. It took faith for the father to patiently wait for Jesus while he got sidetracked as his daughters final moments were ticking away. And when death occurred it took faith to trust Jesus when he said not to be afraid, but to believe. There are moments in our lives when we must not let fear rob us of our faith. Like the father in this account when we are worried or afraid we must trust in the One in whom all power rests, Jesus Christ. Faith opens the door to the power of God who restores life and makes all things new. Faith fosters hope in life’s most hopeless seasons. It’s not easy and it takes effort but when things are at their worst, do not be afraid, just believe and trust that the all powerful God of the universe is with you and will see you through. See more

In Mark 5 Jesus comes upon a man who has battled demon possession for quite some time. It appears that people had tried to help him, they tried to subdue him but the demons within him were too belligerent and he was cast out of the social center of the city and spent his days alone in the tombs away from everyone. Jesus, who as the son of God has possesses authority over all things; nature, disease, and the demons, graciously frees the man from his possession. The man now in ...his right mind and free from what ailed him is naturally thankful and wants to follow Jesus. Jesus would not let the man join him, instead he tells the man to go back into the city and, go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. Basically Jesus tells the man he healed to go and share the goodness of God. This is actually a timeless principle we ourselves should follow. Often we are afraid to share the love of Jesus with others because we may not know the answer to a question that may be asked, so we simply don’t share. All Jesus asks of the healed man was to go and share what had been done for him. He didn’t tell the man to go and preach or to prepare a well thought out biblical presentation, he simply required the man to share how God showed him mercy. So...how has God shown you mercy? What has the Lord done specifically for you? I guarantee any questions you are asked about God’s goodness in your life can be answered. Jesus’ go and tell is the way we go about sharing the hope of Jesus to our family and friends. Much like a once demon possessed man now appearing in his right mind was proof of God’s mercy, you and your new life in Christ are living proof of the goodness and mercy of God. Let God’s goodness and mercy be known today. See more

I cannot help but notice that conspiracy theories abound in today’s news cycle. Theories about the integrity of our country’s most recent elections, the secret lives of the rich and famous, the existence of a virus affecting every nation on the planet, and the cause of death of high profile pedophiles all populate the headlines of major media outlets...24/7. With all the personal technology at our fingertips it is very easy to find oneself in the proverbial rabbit hole foll...owing links and pages and followers of any number of theories. The further down the rabbit hole the further from the truth one can wind up. As Christians it might do us well to worry much less about conspiracy theories and focus much more on making certain our lives are built upon the Rock of Truth, that is Jesus Christ. He promised that anyone who built his house upon the rock (Matthew 7:24-25) would withstand and endure in the chaos that surrounds us all. A house built upon the foundation of Jesus’ life and teachings in virtually unshakable, meaning whatever happens around you should not and could not rattle you. A house built upon any other foundation is on a much weaker foundation and will one day crash. This is the truth of Jesus’ message in Matthew 7:24-25. In these trying days the truth about the elections, the private lives of the rich and famous, COVID-19, and the mysterious demise of high profile criminals is out there somewhere, but let’s be a people who pursue the actual truth found only in the holiness and sovereignty of our God. For his truth is absolute, immovable, unchangeable, and unshakeable. May you be encouraged by these words. See more
