Vanguard University Graduate Religion 17.11.2020

Welcome, Dr. Bill Prevette! Dr. Prevette and his wife Ky have recently relocated from Oxford, England to Southern California. He will serve as a Visiting Scholar and Missionary in Residence at Vanguard University for the next two years. We are honored to have him teach our graduate students in the MAT and MALS programs.... Bill and Ky have served as AGWM missionaries since 1988. They have ministered in over 30 countries and have had homes in Thailand, Cambodia, Romania and England. They are ordained with the So Cal Network. As a missionary and professor whose work is often conducted one-on-one and at a distance, Bill’s passion is to mentor and invest in men and women who are leading change and transformation where they are serving. Committed to the roles of both scholar and practitioner, Bill has a special interest in working with marginalized children, youth and families. He will continue his appointment as a missionary in Europe and remains engaged in faith-based global development work and international consulting and training. If you are interested in learning about theology and leadership from professors like Dr. Prevette, visit the link in our bio to find out more about our Master of Arts in Theology and Master of Arts in Leadership Studies.

One of the hardest things to do is not to worry and rejoice instead. Especially when you’re faced with a difficult day and a difficult situation. When it seems that everything is not going your way, we’re told by Paul to not worry, but rejoice. What does that look like? A good way to delight or gladden yourself in God would be to remind yourself of things that God has done for you. Has He ever provided something for you? Has He ever helped you when things were tough? Has He c...omforted you when you didn’t think you could go on? Remind yourself of the good things that God has done in your life. When you remember what God has done for you, it helps you keep a smile on your face. It doesn’t matter what you’re facing or what you’ve been through, you can make yourself happy by choosing to think on the good things God has done for you. Don’t let your situation or circumstances keep you down. Make the decision today to rejoice in the Lord always. See more

Can I get a witness?

"Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory." Romans 5:2 It's hard to comprehend, but we stand in the middle of undeserved privilege when we put our faith in Christ. The word privilege is defined as a right or immunity granted as a benefit. We are granted immunity from our sins which had separated us from God. Now we can joyfully be in His presence and await the day we can share His glory. How do you gracefully share undeserved privilege without pridefully looking down on others?

"The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him." - Psalm 103:13 Sometimes it can be difficult to think of the Lord in terms of a father. Our earthly, albeit human, father may not have loved us the way we feel loved or even abandoned us altogether. There can be a gap left between what was modeled by our earthly father and how our heavenly father loves us. Yet we know God is tender and compassionate. We must find it in our hearts to forgive our father so that we may fully experience the love of our Father. Pray your heavenly Father will help you uncover and release any roots of anger or bitterness as you walk in relationship with Him.

"I have singled him [Abraham] out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised." - Genesis 18:19 This verse is a good reminder of the importance of raising children according to the Lord's ways. For those of you who are parents or will become parents, we are convicted to lead lives of integrity as examples for our children. As children, we get to learn of the right Bible stories to help us learn the right way to treat others. Everyone comes together, in their own unique way, to share in the goodness of the Lord. If you find your family has moved off track, it's never too late to reorient the family through watching a family movie featuring Biblical principles, attending church, or playing Bible knowledge games together.
