Jackie & Shadow's new egg brings new hope! PLEASE REMEMBER! The area around a bald eagle nest in Fawnskin is closed including a portion of the Grays Peak Trail and the Grout Bay Picnic Area. Winter Safety from the U.S. Forest Service - San Bernardino National Forest: - Bring tire traction devices. State checkpoints will likely be setup along highways. - Be prepared for traffic and large crowds! If there is no parking available, DO NOT block roadways, driveways and gates. Maintain social distancing. - Keep snow play on public lands, NOT private property, and always remove your trash and broken sleds.... - Recently burned areas and adjacent spots where rock/dirt debris flows will remain closed. This includes recreation areas around Forest Falls. - STAY OUT of the bald eagle nesting closure in Fawnskin, located on the northwest side of Big Bear Lake. - Fire restrictions and related safety prohibitions remain in effect until we receive significant amounts of precipitation to get us out of peak fire season. View map of recreation sites to find open areas here >>> https://www.fs.fed.us/r5/webmaps/RecreationSiteStatus/

How much do you know about Big Bear's burros? From the San Bernardino National Forest - "Burros and horses were introduced to North America with the settlers...Over time, individual animals escaped and became wild, establishing herds throughout the west. How they got to Big Bear is an interesting tale "Some believe they were escapees from old movie shoots or mining operations. Others say they were released after the fox farms failed during the Depression...Still others clai...m the burro population was likely a result of the annual Old Miner’s Day burro race events. "In 1973, Congress passed the Wild Horse and Burro Protection Act that established management territories for burro and horse populations on National Forest and Bureau of Land Management Lands." This decision will be evaluated daily, taking fire and weather conditions into account. The fire prohibition includes building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove." Please respect the fire restrictions and camping prohibitions in place by the National Forest Service. They are designed to prevent the start of devastating forest fires. Choosing to ignore these restrictions puts the landscape, wildlife, homes, businesses, and human lives at risk. "US Forest Service firefighters have just contained a 30x30’ wildfire that escaped from an illegal and abandoned campfire in Big Bear. Please remember:... Both campfires and dispersed camping are still currently prohibited in the SBNF due to elevated fire danger." See Original Tweet: https://twitter.com/SanBernardin/status/1333154328664711168
