The police and fire departments did a great job doing what they could, not being able to reach me, so big thanks to those tireless civil servants who put up the sheet for me on Christmas.

As if this year of Covid wasn’t hard enough...apparently on Christmas morning someone threw a chair through my store window, making for a very unmerry holiday. Hope everyone else has a better one than I.

We have New Arrivals! This Covid time has been challenging. We were not able to get shipments for some time, so you had nothing new to get from us while you were sheltering in place. Now, we have started to get new shipments somewhat regularly again! Yea! And we are also allowed to be open for curbside service with Covid safety protocols in place drop ins, as well as advance orders, deliveries and pick ups. On Monday, May 18, 2020 Covid era our store is allowed to open in a limited fashion for curbside orders. This means pick ups deliveries but also drop in service! We are letting our rentals go out for longer, and are waiving many (but not all) overdue fines. We want make it as easy and safe as possible to enable your access to our collection so you have the best possible selection to distract/occupy you during this stay at home era! Over 25000 items for all ages, eras, countr...ies, and tastes! Expect stringent social distancing protocols for your safety and ours: Face coverings are required for service, no touching unless using our disposable protective gloves, six feet apart, the usual. We get here before opening to disinfect all rental boxes, surfaces and any contact areas, and we wear gloves and masks for all service. Nobody can come in the store but we can serve you between 1 and 6 Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays. Advance ordering is strongly advised, as transactions are lengthy now and we can only help one at a time. Reminder to all customers: Thursdays and Saturdays are days I come in to process and clean your returned movies, and to arrange your phone and online orders for delivery to you, it only until 5 or 6pm. This has been tough for all of us, but I remain committed to providing our collection to all customers who want choice and quality for their household as they shelter in place. Hi Video Wave facebook fans! On Thursday April 2nd I am in store until roughly 5pm. Doing the normal closed stuff, but also getting together all your phone and email orders! Reminder: your rental loan periods are longer, and I am waiving nearly all late fees (example: if you are one day overdue, don’t worry, it is waived; if it is two weeks overdue, I am reducing it as much as I can) I will return on Saturday April 4th and again on Monday April 6th for doing returns, disinfec...ting discs and boxes, and for your outside pickups of phone, email and messenger orders. Stay safe, stay informed, then get distracted with good things to watch from your friendly neighborhood small business!

I am leaving the shop now, Tuesday March 31st, 5:30pm. I will return to shop for disinfecting returns and other office duties on Thursday April 2nd for sure before 1pm. I MAY be here tomorrow, Wednesday April 1st (no foolin’), but I am unsure, since I cannot be open for my customers. Remember: leave me a message, a note, an email, a voice mail, telling me what you want, and I will work with you to arrange for pick up or delivery or whatever I can arrange for your viewing need...s. If you are not presently a current account holder this may not work, as I have to be open and have you in store to sign things. Another reminder: if you think it is wrong that we be ordered to close, but bakeries and frozen yogurt places can stay open (as an example), please contact our District 8 Supervisor, Rafael Mandelman. Hello from our closed shop! I am in the store Tuesday doing disinfecting and returns and other office tasks. Phone, email or online through here (messenger preferred) orders are OK! Curb side or door pickup only, and returns can be made 24 hours a day through drop slot. We clean every box, and are trying to not go out of business while being told we can't be open for business. Tell us what you want, and we should be able to arrange with you when and how to pick it up. Stay safe, stay strong, take care, missing all of you!

Despite our store's strict COVID safety protocols, and the testimonials from customers that this store is essential, someone complained that I was open and non-essential. That is what the police officers told me today when they told me the store has to close. Accordingly, the shop is closed. Ignore the hours posted here and on our webpage. However, if you would like to voice your opinion about whether or not the last remaining video rental store (that also sells food, popcorn..., ice cream and beverages to go) should be deemed "essential", please contact our District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman at 415-554-6968 or [email protected]. I also encourage anyone with press contacts to contact the press and voice their opinion. Since I will be in the store doing maintenance and office work, but I am not to be open, if anyone has any ideas about how the store's massive collection of discs can get in the hands of quarantined people (or sheltered in place people, or health care workers, or seniors or their caregivers), please share those ideas. We can let stuff go to an institution for weeks instead of days, we can reduce or waive rental fees or late fees for these populations, we want to help pass the time stuck at home or in hospice or a hospital or wherever with quality, selection and expertise! Video Wave will be open for normal operating hours beginning Friday March 13th. The medical issue that closed the store on Thursday is NOT any kind of flu like thing. Colin will gladly tell you about his most recent temporary affliction, if you ask him. We rarely have more than 10 people in the store at once, so gathering in the shop is not banned yet! Renting a movie at your local video store and watching at home seems a prudent plan, and Colin will be there every day except Wednesdays to help you pick the best ones. Seems that I have another medical situation, more painful but less life threatening than before. In hospital now. I will update here if anything changes. Scheduling updates: after a whole day of rest, my recovery is going smoothly, so the hours this weekend will be 12 - 8 daily. There is no longer a need for being closed for an hour break, so that will be a nice solid 8 hours. However, Monday February 24th there is a doctor follow up appointment in the morning, so that day will more like 1 ish to 8. Also, the weeks of no new release movies should be over tomorrow, Friday February 21st, as shipments are on the way now! On Fri...day, Look for: Ford Vs. Happy Saturday everybody. Yesterday, the Noe Valley community made it it a pretty special day, with all the support and care about my recovery, and the fun energy with the Cadence Chocolates pop up. I did stay too long in the evening though, so today’s schedule is like the new normal: open about 12:30, until 3:30, closed for doctor ordered rest, reopen about 4:30, and open until 8 ish. Wish I could stay open longer, but I am still recovering.

Today’s quick schedule notice: closed for doctor ordered rest between 330 and 415, but more importantly Cadence Chocolates chocolatier Melissa is in our shop tonight with a pop up event for her beautiful and tasty artisanal chocolates, between 5 and 7 pm, or until she sells out. They are good. Very Valentiney!

Happy Valentine’s Day! If anyone still rents a nice movie to get close on the couch with their valentine, we are the place to go. We the widest and best selection of movies anywhere in the Bay Area, with treats and Cadence chocolates and ice cream and well you get the picture. It is more fun to choose a thing to watch with your valentine in our store, where browsing is quick and easy, then to take turns scanning the paucity of options on whatever streaming services you might use. In honor of Valentine’s Day, any couple browsing together today or tonight will get a rent one get one free, or ROGO, deal. Open until 8 tonight.

We have been quiet on GoFundMe for some time, becuase the fundraising benefit that we sold tickets through here worked really well, and our new subscription based rental model is also working really well. However, I am sad to say that the sole operator of the shop had unepected and emergency surgery last week, followed by a second surgery to remove the cause of the first. The store lost a week's worth of income while Colin was in the hospital, leaving our bank account with a ...25% sized hole were our income should have been. I am sorry to ask for your assistance filling that hole. I totally understand if all previous donors are fed up, and why a new donor might not want to contribute for that. But I ask anyway, humbly, with great appreciation for all that all of you have been able to do so far for us, Operating on the razors edge does not allow for a 25% drop in revenue. After Wednesday’s normally scheduled off day (which I needed for surgery recovery), we are open Thursday February 13th until 7:30 ish (still closing a tad early). Tuesday February 11 schedule: Following doctors orders, I can be at store and open for business, but only with more frequent breaks to rest, AND with at least one long break in the middle. So, open today, yea! I will close for an hour around 3, for a long recovery rest. And stay open as long as I can, but close around 7 ish. Thanks for bearing with me during this recovery everybody! Oh, JOJO Rabbit and Ford vs Ferrari should be here by middle or end of week, sorry for the delay.

Thank you video wave community! Already a friend of my shop has responded about my request for a sign to be put up, and it is taken care of! Thanks so much. I will be there tomorrow, after todays rest. Besides, all our copies of Parasite were checked out yesterday...Congratulations to the first ever foreign language film to win Best Picture! It was superb, expertly crafted and original. I just heard that HBO has already got an English language remake in the works; I expect it to be NOT EVEN CLOSE to the original. Why remake something that is right there? We can all read, right?

Hi video wave friends! Today, February 10th, I am sorry to say I won’t be able to go into the shop. I need a full day of rest and recovery after last week’s medical events. I don’t think it is a set back, more of a prudent, keep things on track kind of thing. I am asking for the community’s help, just to put up a sign on my store door covering my present sign, before I am supposed to open at 12 ish. Hello again from Video Wave! Yesterday went well, I didn’t make myself worse and in fact feel better every day. Thanks to all who came by and made it a very welcoming day back behind the counter at ye olde video shoppe. I think I will be there daily, coming in today from probably 12:30 to 7:30. Our store is an Oscar telecast free zone, meaning it won’t be on TV, but we have many of the nominees available for rent, with more coming in the next few weeks. Celebrate arts and culture!

Ok folks, I am opening the shop today, Saturday February 8, for a little while, or intermittently, or whatever I can take. Want to get you all your movies on Oscar weekend. If any of you want to come in and hang out for a while, a little volunteering would help move things along. I will do only what I can, so there will be very slow happenings while I recover from surgery. Hope to see you.

Hello friends of Video Wave. Sorry for abrupt closure of the store this week. It is temporary, and was due to a medical emergency. I was unable to communicate before now. Two procedures later, I write you from UCSF hospital to say I am well, recovering, and very much hope to reopen soon. Hopefully Saturday or Sunday. I know I missed a lot of business from you all, and especially because of the Oscars and everyone (myself included) trying to watch as many as we could, I regret the timing of the emergency. But, I got great care, and should be back to help ASAP.
