In honor of our 1st graduating class from Victory Christian Academy, we would like to recognize each and every one of them. Our next Senior Story is from Kyle Benestad - here is his story - Although my senior year has been pretty unusual, I’m excited to be graduating with the first senior class of VCA. After previously attending Rincon Valley Christian school, I decided to enroll at VCA where I was able to reconnect with fellow classmates and retain a Christ-centered educat...ion. Having an environment like VCA has provided me with a school where I can challenge myself academically but also grow spiritually in all my classes. While at VCA, some of the things I’ve been able to participate in have been student leadership and sports. I’ve enjoyed being a part of the student council over the last two years and working with my classmates to put on fun events. I’ve also loved playing tennis and basketball at VCA. Most of all, I’m so thankful to have been in a place where I have such a great group of friends to finish high school and graduate with. Outside of school, I have been involved in Boy Scouts and currently am in the final steps of achieving my Eagle Scout Rank. After I graduate this year, I plan to go to college and study environmental science. While I look forward to this next stage of my life, I know that it's going to be incredibly hard to move away from the great relationships and memories I’ve created at VCA. Our school is participating in the Operation Christmas Child shoebox ministry. If anyone - VCA families, grandparents, aunts, uncles, Church friends, neighbors, anyone in our community would like to join us, we now have the boxes ready and available in the school office for you to pick up at your convenience. Collection week is Nov. 16 so you still have a few weeks to put them together. We have plenty of boxes so please come and pick up as many as you would like to pack. Mrs. Cheryl Wagner, local author of The Night Before Christmas in Bethlehem, read from her book to VCA elementary students today over Zoom at the morning Chapel. The kids thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story of Jesus and learning about what it takes to be a writer and publish their own book. The book is for sale to the VCA community for $15 (reg. $24.99), and Cheryl is donating $5 from the sale of each book to VCA. She will also sign the book and include a personal inscription. WE CHOSE VCA! Why the Hernandez Family chose VCA: The day I was in labor with my oldest, my pastor called my husband to see how everything was going. He then proceeded to ask, Have you thought about what kind of education you will give your child? My husband and I were stumped by the question as the norm is to just enroll in the local public school. Being young (20, 25) and recently saved Christians, we had not even thought about it. When our children were school age, we pu...t them in public school, and remembered our conversation with our pastor years before. For the first 2 years they were in K and 1st grades, it was less than great. Even in such an early stage of elementary school, our children were targeted because they listened to Christian music, dressed a bit more conservatively, and because they didn’t participate in certain activities. The principal called me to the office because my children did not want to participate in Halloween. I responded to the principal by saying, We do not participate in Halloween, and it was met with disdain, and I was told that I was teaching my children to defy authority. We believe God is the ultimate authority. As a family, we value the belief that God is first. As parents, we have an obligation of impressing God's word not only in our hearts but in our children’s hearts. The Bible says, Impress them (God's word) on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:7 That became a charge on my husband and me. That’s when we decided to homeschool, which went well for 3 years. But my heart was set on sending my three children to school with other kids who have the same like mind in Christ as we do. That is why we set our hearts on VCA. We are so thankful for VCA and that my kids feel surrounded by love, respect, and God's word. #WeChoseVCA #VictoryChristianAcademy
