Thank you for all your support, we see you! We are at 52% of our goal! Will you help us meet it by sharing this post? No amount is too small, we’re grateful for all of our supporters and our community Our friends at SeedMoney, the nonprofit hosting our campaign, have an additional, time-sensitive grant we'd love to win: a $400 gift card to @Gardeners Supply Company that we could really use for buying tools and supplies. All you need to do to enter us into the running for... that grant is make a donation of any amount to our campaign here and in bio: https://donate.seedmoney.org/5182/the-learning-garden On Wednesday, SeedMoney will randomly choose one donor as the lucky winner. If you happen to be that person, not only will you win a $400 gift card for us, but you'll also win a $100 gift card for yourself. Thanks for supporting our work this #GivingTuesday! #seedmoneychallenge #seedmoney

We are half-way through our 30-day fundraising campaign and are making a big push today and tomorrow in celebration of Giving Tuesday, the biggest day of the year for online giving. Perusing past years of our Thanksgiving celebrations and yearning for more connection to the community in this holiday season, but also honoring time alone. We won't have a Thanksgiving dinner this year and don't know about the future. We were blessed for over 10 years to have this celebration that brought us together every year, some annually, others just for a single potluck. Many wonderful foods from a multiplicity of kitchens, some from other traditions we did not know fe...d us in a dizzy array of cuisines. In all our Thanksgivings, we experienced rain only one time - last years' Thanksgiving it poured, but we had Thanksgiving anyway, a few hardy souls in the classroom with barely enough room to get by one another. We, all of the volunteers of The Learning Garden, wish you a reflective and reinvigorating Thanksgiving Holiday, may you share a meal with a friend (practicing COVID precautions!) and remember the Thanksgivings of the past and dream of those to come! Happy Holidays to all of you! (PS, no Solstice this year either....) david (the photo is from 2012 - we had the potluck from @ 2005 to 2019) See more

In November of 2018, we thanked and said goodbye to this majestic sycamore tree which was destroyed during the construction project at Venice High. Today, Grant Francis gifted us this beautiful bowl crafted from the wood of our sycamore. The tree lives on! Thank you, Grant, for such a precious and beautiful gift!

"For over a decade, organizations I'm part of in Whittier and Pasadena have benefited from educational resources made available thanks to The Learning Garden. p.s. As a nonprofits professional: It takes a LONG time to build programming and relationships of this caliber, and it takes a SHORT time to destroy it all with construction. Don't do it." Thank you from Whittier and Pasadena!

TO ALL FRIENDS OF THE LEARNING GARDEN: Due to construction at the garden site and the ever changing COVID-19 regulations, the 11th (I think) Annual Fourth of July Ice Cream Social is put on ice this year. One of the most popular events we have annually just could not become a "safe distancing - don't breathe on me" event. We looked at it from many different perspectives and, sad to say, there isn't a way to make it right. We value the health and safety of every one of you, but we'll be back! YOU CAN'T KEEP A GOOD THING DOWN! Happy 4th of July everyone!

These are friends. Help them, please, to recover and serve our community as they did in the past. We are saddened and pained that this happened in our community. Let's make it right!

Happy #Monday! It’s a beauuutiful day in #LosAngeles. If it’s safe and encouraged to go out for a #walk at where you are, go out, take a walk around the #neighborhood and show us all living things #purple! You will see the abundance in #nature, take it all in and enjoy! Don’t forget to take long, deep breaths while you’re at it. #50shadesofpurple #stayathome #inthistogether #mentalhealth

Happy #SundayFunday and happy #gardening! Here’s a lazy #gardener #seedstarting tip from our very own Joy Sun: Instead of throwing my containers and tupperwares away, I use the ones with clear lids to start my #seeds. Make sure there are drainage at the bottom ( heat screw driver over stove and make some holes at the bottom). Sow seeds, indicate what it is on the top with blue tape (so I can #reuse the containers, most have been with me for a few years now). Bottom soak ...with room temp water, since most of the seeds I’m starting are small. Once it’s moist and the bottom is no longer draining - don’t open the container but just set it next to a well lit window. No watering needed until the seeds are ready to be #transplanted. See more
