A mask for you makes a difference for us. Wear yours correctly in public to significantly reduce the rate of COVID-19 transmission. We must #StopTheSurge. Let’s work together to get it done. #YourActionsSaveLives
President Kennedy took to the airwaves on October 22, 1962, to brace Americans for the worst.
Today, we remember the 2,403 Americans who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor 79 years ago. We are eternally grateful for their sacrifice and service to our nation. #PearlHarbor #PearlHarborRemembranceDay #NeverForgotten #MyCalVet #WorldWarII
Yesterday our residents got ready to watch the World Series with nachos and baseball decorations.
Although Congress abolished slavery in the District of Columbia in 1862, and President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation ended the practice of slavery... in rebellious states in 1863, at war’s end in 1865 the question of slavery had not been resolved at the national level. It wasn't until December 6, 1865 (155 years ago) when Georgia became the 27th state needed to ratify the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the abolishment of slavery. #CivilWar #13th #MyCalVet #CalVetConnect

It's finally here! Chula Vista residents can now see their loved ones IN PERSON by appointment! Per state and local guidance, the Chula Vista Veterans Home is providing limited, outdoor visitation sessions between residents and loved ones. Physically distanced visits are being scheduled for the Skilled Nursing level of care. A reservation is mandatory and the appointment must be made in advance. For more information about setting up a visit contact the social worker of your loved one, or the general inquiry line 619-482-6033, during business hours.
Drop, Cover and Hold On! Last week our staff members participated in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill. These drills take place nationwide every October, and drills are an opportunity to practice how to be safer during earthquakes. ShakeOut helps everyone to reassess our emergency plans and supplies, and to secure our space in order to prevent damage and injuries in the event of an earthquake.
This book touched on so many things that apply to everyday life, that our veteran began urging others at the Ventura Home to read it as well. #MakeYourBed
El Soldado stands to remember California’s Mexican-American veterans who fought during World War II, but essentially encompasses all Hispanic and Latino vetera...ns and their countless examples of heroism, CalVet Secretary Vito Imbasciani, M.D. said. With Latino Heritage Month coming to its close, the California Department of Veterans Affairs’ Minority and Underrepresented Veterans Division wants to highlight the statue for all that it embodies. #LatinoHeritageMonth #MinorityVeterans #Veterans #ElSoldado #CalVet

Here's a fun fact about today that we didn't learn from watching Hamilton! October 2, 1789, or 231 years ago today, U.S. Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton... commissioned a report on the potential use of boats and ships for the security of the revenue against contraband. #USCoastGuard #Hamilton #USHistory
It's October 1st and spooky season is here at the Veterans Home of Chula Vista. One of our talented former residents built this amazing five piece Halloween band, programed with six songs played by a vampire, werewolf, Frankenstein, mummy, and even and invisible man on the drums!
