FROM THE CHAPLAIN: All my comrades and friends of Lakewood Memorial VFW Post 8615, an update on it's status; On 9-3-19 we finally had a hearing with a National Hearing Officer appointed by the Commander-in-Chief to hear our appeal for suspension and seizure of the post by Department of CA and District 4 to be overturned. The hearing officer has 1 week to digest and condense the various testimonies and send to the National Commander-in-Chief for his review and verdict. The Com...mander-in-Chief then has up to 30 days to issue that verdict. In the meantime we are still in limbo. The post has been in existence since 1932 and literally thousands of proud veterans who served in combat zones for the USA have contributed over the decades to it's legacy. When the post is reactivated we will need a LOT of help and support both from within the membership as well as the communities we serve. The challenges will be many but we can overcome. For now all we can do is trust in the Lord that His will will be done and He will direct the VFW C-n-C to do the right thingFR See more

You are invited to join in the city's annual tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives while serving in the United States armed forces, as well as to honor the members of local veterans organizations who have died during the past year. The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at the Lakewood Veterans Memorial Plaza at Del Valle Park. The memorial and Douglas jet fighter, both renovated in 2015, are located on Woodruff Avenue, between Henrilee Street and Arbor Road. The keynote speaker for this year's ceremony is Don Walsh, Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and Second Vice Commander and Chaplain of American Legion Post 496. Walsh served as a communications technician throughout South Vietnam and has been a member of the American Legion in New York and California for over 40 years.
