Consequences of tick bites. Lyme disease was first discovered in 1975, however many manifestations of disease has been previously described. The signs of neurological Lyme disease are associated with blacklegged ticks or deer ticks). These ticks attribute to a disease called tick borne meningoencephalitus. Lyme diseases in dogs is typically present with an abrupt onset of fever, anorexia, lethargy, and lameness. This usually occur in one or two joints and may be shifting.... in chronic stage intermittent arthritis and heart conditions. In horses, this disease causes arthropathy, uveitis, and encephalitis. In humans,Lyme disease presents itself in three stages; the first sign is an expanding Bull’s eye rash, red skin lesions that develop at site of tick bite. Other clinical representations include fever, lethargy, joint and muscle pain, and headaches. During the second stage, weeks or months later, small lesions on various parts of the body appear, fatigue, neurologic diseases become apparent, especially meningitis and myocarditis (facial nerve paralysis). Lastly, in the third stage months or years after initial infection, the disease shows characteristics of chronic arthritis and encephalopathy (sleep disturbances, fatigue, personality changes).
