When I was in high school, my aunt really helped to mentor me and encouraged me to go into forensic science. She was a retired Connecticut State Police Officer. She was able to bring me in for a tour of the police lab. It was really great to be able to go and tour the lab and see what it was. I had seen one in a fictionalized CSI show, but I really had no idea what it was to be able to walk through a lab that is much like the one that I work in now. It was such an eye-openin...g experience. They talked about big cases that had been solved and I heard about what they did with their technology. That was really exciting for me. It was such a memorable experience. Meet Kristin - a forensic scientist who works in our Crime Lab and has worked for VCSO for the last 10 years. Kristin specializes in DNA analysis and is one of 11 women who work in the DNA Unit. In forensic science, it's not hard to be a woman in the field at all. The field is dominated by women. Whether you’re helping victims or fighting for the innocent, I think that aspect has attracted a lot of women to the field. It’s really fun to be in a field that is strongly represented by women.
