Happy Pi Day from the Ventura College Little Pi-rates!

The benefits of a laboratory school - our little and big students learn together! The 4 and 5-year-olds in our Angel Fish class asked for a farmers market for their dramatic play area and the fieldwork students who are student teaching in their classroom this semester created an amazing one! The children can plant crops, tend the garden, pick fruit and care for the tree, care for the chicken and gather the eggs, wash their produce and buy and sell it at the farmers market. Rich opportunities for learning in this meaningful, creative, hands-on environment!

We were very excited to be awarded a CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Mean Parents in School) grant by the federal Department of Education. This funding will allow us to provide child care scholarships to many qualifying Ventura College student families for the next four years. Want to see if you qualify? These incredible women were recognized and given awards for the work they have done to advance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the classrooms with children, in supporting students to carry the work forward into the community, and in truly understanding and implementing STEM from a holistic perspective. I could not be prouder of this Ventura College Child Development team and the work they do collaboratively at the Orfalea Child Development Center at Ventura College."

We're offering a new Child Development course at Ventura College this semester,"Behavior Management." Tuesdays, 700- 9:50 p.m. A strong focus will be on CSEFEL (Center for Social Emotional Foundations for Learning), a core component of our state's quality rating improvement system. This course will be taught be a CSEFEL trainer, Janet Mocsny Fleming. Great class for any level of teacher! Class begins one week from tonight and there is still time to register.
