Ventura College Women's Basketball 22.12.2020

#WhereAreTheyWednesday Erica (Probasco) Mattesich ‘93 My basketball career ended at VC in 1993 when we lost in our own gym in the State Final Four in overtime! I will never forget that game! Then I went to Chico State University and earned my B.A. and M.A. in Speech & Language Pathology and Audiology. I returned to Ventura (my hometown) to work for the school district for the next 20 years. I mostly worked with the infant/preschool students who had mild to severe communi...cation disabilities and/or developmental delays. I have been happily married for 17 years (to another Ventura local) and we have 2 amazing children (age 14 & 15 years old). I really tried to get my kids to like basketball but my daughter is a gymnast & my son loves computers. The last three years have been tough as we have battled wildfires and a global pandemic! In December 2017, the Thomas Fire in Ventura burned down our house and everything in it. Besides the tragedy of it, many blessings came from it as well. The community of Ventura along with family & friends showered us with love and support! Then, in 2018, we moved to Carlsbad in San Diego because my husband was offered a promotion we couldn’t refuse. It was tough to leave family and friends but sunny San Diego is beautiful! Coach Mircetic gave me something that I hadn’t received in my basketball career before- that was confidence in my skills! Many people asked me why I didn’t play like that in high school?! We all know that Coach was tough, but he also believed in you and yelled at you because he knew you could do better! I will always cherish the memories made with all my teammates. A few years ago, I took my husband to a VC Women’s game and he was very impressed with how hard they played! I am a proud alumna! #VCFamily #PirateForLife VC Athletics Ventura College Cali Juco WBB http://www.vcweplayhard.com//w/WhereAreTheyWednesday/index

#WhereAreTheyWednesday Sara (Phelps) Hannah ‘97 I played on the 1996 and 1997 back-to-back state championship teams. After VC I played at San Francisco State and earned my bachelor’s degree in child psychology and an MA in early childhood education. I am now a Regional Manager for Bright Horizons, a large global childcare company. We work with corporate clients like Amgen, Paramount Pictures, and Dignity Health offering onsite childcare as a benefit to their employees. ... Coaches and teammates have played a tremendous role in where I am emotionally and physically. Being a leader of people in my role now, there are some things you just cannot teach adults to do. It is all those soft skills that you learned as a result of being on a team, counting and depending on each other, winning, losing, making mistakes, and adjustments, all in front of an audience and the public eye. (We didn’t do a lot of losing, however. ) There are times that I am in a difficult situation and I think if I can survive a VC practice or Ned’s post game talk I can survive this. We are happily residing in Ventura and my husband and I are proud parents to two middle/high school student athletes. we can’t wait to get back to our sport life. #PirateForLife #VCFamily VC Athletics Ventura College Sara Hannah https://ventura.prestosports.com//WhereAreTheyWednes/index

#WhereAreTheyWednesday Amanda Padilla '10 During my time at VC, I was fortunate to be part of the 2010 State Championship team and named to the State Farm WBCA All-American team my sophomore year. After graduating, I attended California State University Channel Islands where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, followed by my completion of my Teaching Credential from California Lutheran University.... I am currently in my second year of teaching, working in San Jose at Evergreen School District. I have been with my fiancé, Krockett, for eight years now and due to the pandemic we had to reschedule our August wedding to this upcoming April. Playing at Ventura College, I developed a meticulous work ethic, was taught how to prioritize responsibilities, and the importance of teamwork. I am forever grateful for the relationships I’ve made at VC. #PirateForLife #VCFamily VC Athletics Ventura College

#WhereAreTheyWednesday Adrianne Sloboh '14 After graduating from Ventura College, I finished my last two years of college at Loyola University New Orleans on a full ride basketball scholarship. I earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.... Since leaving college I have become one of the top female skateboarders in the world with sponsorships from Nike SB and DGK to name a couple. I appeared in several national commercials including Nike, Volkswagen, Foot Locker, and Adidas; and starred in a Doja Cat music video. I was a guest star on an episode of NCIS New Orleans, and two episodes of Animal Kingdom on TNT. I am also featured in the latest relaunch of Tony Hawks pro skater video game. Going to VC taught me that state champions always succeed, and if you want to skate while playing college ball, keep it in the low. #WhereAreTheyWednesday Christine (McPherson) Wyatt '09 After VC, I continued to work for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department as I finished up my Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. After six years employed with VCSD, I was offered a job as a Legal Assistant in Criminal Defense Law at the Ventura County Public Defender's office. I have been there almost nine years as a Paralegal specializing in Public Safety Realignment Program & Reentry Services and Homeless Veterans.... Basketball has remained a huge part of my life even after college - so much that I started the first official Women’s Sunday Basketball League in Oxnard. My team, the SoCal Hoopsters have won three championships. Before this pandemic, my league would have been going its fifth year. It has been a pleasure playing with and against local high school and college rivals, and hope to get back into it soon. I never moved, have always lived in my beautiful hometown Ventura and I married my high school sweetheart Kenny Wyatt three years ago. We were recently blessed with our baby boy, Mack Jackson, almost five months ago and I love being his mom. Family and friends mean the world to me. VC women’s basketball taught me all about patience, both on and off the court. That patience is not the ability of waiting, it is the ability to remain calm no matter what happens. "Patience is not passive, on the contrary, it is active; and concentrated strength." Something to always remember and use in everyday life. #PirateForLife #VCFamily VC Athletics Ventura College
