Statewide drought conditions are highlighting the value of regionally and locally controlled water supplies in San Diego County, where the San Diego County Water Authority recently announced that the region is protected from drought impacts this summer, and through 2045, despite continued hot and dry conditions. As always, we still encourage all residents to continue conserving water as #ConservationIsForLife in CA. Read more @ bit.ly/2UfyEf0.

Finally some good news for 2020! We can take 'giant Asian hornets' off our list of worries. "It's exceedingly unlikely that these hornets can establish in CA. If you look at where they're found in their native range in Southern Asia, this region has summer rain. I think CA is too dry, except perhaps along the far northern coast. - per Lynn Kimsey, Entomologist. bit.ly/3jEQjE1

Creek Project Update Bent Avenue, between Discovery Street and Creekside Drive, remains closed for bridge construction. Crews have been busy packing soi...l to create the first abutment on the northside of Bent Avenue. This is one of the first steps to constructing the new bridge, so it’s exciting to see things taking shape. Residents can expect to see continued clearing and grubbing in the Creek area. Crews have been working south of San Marcos Boulevard near Pacific Street to extend the existing triple box culvert. Although not related to Creek construction, Vallecitos Water District will be starting work on their interceptor project in the same area as our construction crews. Stay updated on the project by visiting, san-marcos.net/creek. You can also text SMCreek to 484848 to sign up for text updates, call 877 - SMCREEK or email [email protected].

Water & soil-- two of our most precious commodities. When not well managed, storm water run-off can wash away topsoil & pollute our waterways with sediment, chemicals, & nutrients. This FREE webinar will discuss how proper landscaping techniques help keep water & soil where they belong-- on your farm or ranch. Info @ www.solanacenter.org/events
