Nevertheless, she persisted. Remember this place?

I’m having a hard time reconciling these two photos in my brain. Swipe right. They showed up in this order in my IG feed. Heart. Scroll. Heart. Scroll. Heart. My youngest and I are studying US history this year in homeschool by reading Howard Zinn’s ‘A Young People’s History of the United States’, and watching documentaries and re-enactments that speak to history from the perspective of oppressed and the indigenous peoples. I can’t claim I’m as active as I would like to be around this issue, but feel compelled to repost this informative action guide. Compassion is empathy in action. Not just a feeling. But taking action, including ...reparations. . #Repost @yogaservicecouncil We often call this day Thanksgiving but what was actually charitable about the origins of this event? Let us reframe how we understand and celebrate this annual time off. Listen to Indigenous people about the true history and impact of the colonial Thanksgiving and commit to centering Indigenous people and perspectives. Visit the link in @shiftingtheculture ‘s bio to access an Indigenous made syllabus you can use to further your learning. In my house we call this ‘doged’, pronounced dojed, with a long o and a soft g. When you are doged you do not need to get up for anything. And if you need something all you have to say is ‘hey, can you bring me that ____? I’m doged.’ And the other person has to oblige, for obvious reasons. I’ve been blessed. . . #sundayvibes #doglovers #selfcare #rest

Stop! Don’t ‘like’ and scroll so quickly on this one. Imagine all of the people looking at SM with you right now. What happens inside of you when you pause here for a few breaths and take it in. How anxious are you to move on? Is it even possible to pause? Do you think others are breathing with you too? Think about all of those respiratory systems scrolling through their feeds with you. Lungs attached to thumbs selecting emojis and sending them on. Are you breathing? Are they? Ok. Now pay attention to the underlying current of motivation that compels you to scroll past. What are the treasures you hope to find here? Are you happy right now? It’s not a leading question. Just curious.
