In 2007, the firm Pelli Clarke Pelli won a design competition to build the now open Salesforce Tower, park and transit center. Cesar Pelli's other notable towers were the Petronas towers in Malaysia and the Sevilla Tower in Spain. In San Francisco, people either love it or hate it. But as the Art Gensler, the Architect who designed the interior of Salesforce tower puts it, A lot of people don’t like its verticality. But I think it’s just fine. When the LED light art is ins...talled on top, the tower will attract people’s interest, he notes. A lot of people felt lighting the Bay Bridge was a horrible idea. Two years later, it became permanent. Now it’s a wonderful San Francisco asset. When I think of Salesforce tower, I imagine it receiving the same level of criticism that the Transamerica Pyramid building received close to 50 years ago. Now it serves as one of the cities icons. It also provides the backdrop for future towers in the area, notably the Foster + Partners, Oceanwide Center which will reach a height just over 900 feet, which is only a 100 feet shorter than Salesforce tower. Once its completed in 2021, it will compliment the soaring tower and make way for San Francisco skyline to continue to evolve.

Future of Healthcare

Got a chance to tour a brand new San Francisco estate. The home was built on a steep slope about a block from the base of the historic crooked Lombard Street. There are actually two homes on the property. The main home has sweeping views of the bay and downtown San Francisco. Plenty of space for entertaining inside and out, an infinity pool overlooking the bay and a glass elevator that runs up and down the floors of the house. The cottage is just as well crafted as the main... home and even kept some historic charm the original home came with. A new hot tub and patio area was added to the rear of the cottage. The attention to detail didn't end at the front door. The landscape design was carefully curated to connect the front and rear of the property and still consider allowing natural light to come through sky lights that blend into the new vegetation in the courtyard. The challenges this design and construction team faced were unlike any other. Working on a project of scale would be fun and I would gladly take on the challenge.

Accessory dwelling units are popping up all over the Bay Area. Some are small like the one in this video but can get much bigger as well. Would you live in one of these homes?

Really glad this panel is discussing ways to design better, safer and modernized schools for all of their occupants. Personally, it took us a year to convince our kids old school to secure their main entrance. I think most of it is due to lack of information which is why this discussion is so valuable.
