Today on Juneteenth also known as Freedom Day we commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. In 1865, Union General Gordon Granger sailed to Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended, and slaves had been freed. As Sailors, and as a U.S. Navy, we cannot tolerate discrimination or racism of any kind. We must work to identify and eliminate individual and systemic racism within our force.
