The Fall 2019 semester is underway at the USD Veterans Legal Clinic! Our legal interns are working closely with staff attorneys to provide the highest quality legal representation to the veteran community. Students volunteer their time in order to help veterans navigate the complex bureaucracies of the Department of Veteran Affairs and each military branches own boards of corrections. Typical cases involve complex VA disability claims appeals, requests for discharge upgrades,... and representing veterans who have been taken advantage of by predatory for-profit universities. Disability benefits may soon be extended to Vietnam era "blue water" veterans. In a unanimous vote, the House approved the "Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act." The bill presumes toxic chemical exposure for veterans who served off the coast of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The bill currently awaits Senate approval.
