Criminal Law Society and Black Law Student Association are hosting James Forman, Jr.:Crime and Punishment in Black America! When: TONIGHT 5:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. Where: Joan B. Kroc Institut for Peace and Justice, Peace and Justice Theatre... If you haven't already, RVSP using the link below and come join us! "Critics have assailed the rise of mass incarceration, emphasizing its disproportionate impact on people of color. As James Forman, Jr., points out, however, the war on crime that began in the 1970s was supported by many African American leaders in the nation’s urban centers. In Locking Up Our Own, he seeks to understand why. In the face of skyrocketing murder rates and the proliferation of open-air drug markets, black officials believed they had no choice. But the policies they adopted would have devastating consequences for residents of poor black neighborhoods. James Foreman, Jr. represented juveniles as a public defender in Washington, D.C. Currently, he is a professor at Yale Law School." https://www.eventbrite.com/e/james-forman-jr-crime-and-puni

Thank you for all who volunteered at the Criminal Law Society's Pro Bono volunteer day! Here is Aleena Hashmi's experience: I wanted to update you on how rewarding of an experience Clean Slate was. I got to meet and help out two people that are really motivated to turn their lives around, and it was amazing to be able to work with them in the process. They were extremely grateful for all the volunteer help from USD. I will definitely be going back again.
