Today, we celebrated Native American Heritage Month through song, dance and prayer. Base LA/LB hosted the event honoring and remembering the contributions of Native American people in our history, including the veterans who served and continue to serve in all 5 branches of the American Military.

Today Port Security Unit 311 conducted a change of command ceremony. Cmdr. Jeffery Thomason relieved Capt. Laila M. Grassley and assumed the role of commanding ...officer of PSU 311. PSU 311 is an Expeditionary Warfare Unit serving as part of the Coast Guard's Pacific Area Command's Deployable Specialized Forces. They are designed to provide rapid deployment and sustained operations providing port security in support of National Security and Defense operations and natural disaster response both overseas and within U.S. territorial waters. Coast Guardsmen from Base and Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach joined with Air Force personnel and the Los Angeles Police Department to kick off the opening ceremony for the POW/MIA Remembrance Torch relay.

Family, friends, shipmates and supporters participated in the 5K Run to Remember in Long Beach to honor the memory and legacy of those who have given their lives in service to the Coast Guard and the United States.

He emphasized how every active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary member has a responsibility to foster a culture of respect, trust and dignity. A culture that has an absolute zero tolerance of sexual assault and enabling behaviors.

Base LA/LB hosted the 2019 Women Symposium with Captain Monica Rochester, the Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach commander and Dr. Deena Brown, the CEO of DC Brown International, to discuss challenges and lessons learned as leaders in the Coast Guard.
