Repost from @staffsergeant_lopez I knew that I was made to be in the military." -Capt. Emily Speziale, fire support officer Speziale’s decision to serve was an easy one; however, the capacity in which she chose to serve was influenced by her military science instructor at West Point - The U.S. Military Academy.... He pulled me to the side one day and said, ‘Look, I know you’re really excited about your branch choices, but I want you to consider the combat arms,’" Speziale said. "I was absolutely floored. It came out of left field for meI knew I didn’t fit the prescribed stereotype. He said, ‘I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but it’s an environment where you’d thrive,’ and that was that." Thanks to that conversation, Speziale commissioned into the field artillery branch in 2015. This is why USAREC is so special, because it’s a bunch of small conversations that lead to massive life changes, she said. All it took was for one person to say, ‘Hey, I know you don’t see what I see right nowbut if you just trust me, I won’t lead you to a path you’re not prepared for.’ That, to me, is the essence of leadership. Speziale is one of more than 1,400 women in the U.S. Army who have chosen to serve in roles previously only open to men. I was almost apprehensive about being the first female fire support officer to be assigned to my infantry battalion, but no one cared that I was a woman," she said. "I was not only seamlessly integrated into the team, but it was clear that I was among equals from day one. A solid command climate makes change possible, and I think our Army is one that embraces change. Speziale currently serves as the aide-de-camp to the #USAREC deputy commanding general. #WomensEqualityDay - #venturajobs #armyeducation #fillmore #santapaula #ventura #venturacollege #santapaulahighschool #fillmorehighschool #sierrahighschool #vistarealcharterschool #805 #california #buenahighschool #venturahighschool #foothillhighschool #nordhoffhighschool #ojai #nowhiring @ Join the Army

Repost from @593esc Sgt. Taylor A. Jackson, Human Resources NCO, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 62nd Medical Brigade, 593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, joined the military right out of high school, shipped off to basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and never looked back. Taylor, a native of Spokane, Washington, is not the first in her family to be stationed on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Her brother, biological father, and stepfather were also stationed on JBLM, and her stepfather also served in the Air Force. I was bound to join with all of the influence that surrounded me to serve this great country, said Jackson. #RestAssured #WeAre593rd #EverySoldierCounts @ U.S. Army Recruiting Station Ventura

Repost from @127_wolfhounds WOLFHOUND of the WEEK This week the Wolfhounds recognize Private First Class Noah Morales from Death Dealer Company. PFC Morales first joined the Wolfhound Ohana in August 2019 following his Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT). He serves as a driver and radio operator (RTO) in First Warboys Platoon.... PFC Morales is being recognized for his performance during #LightningForge20 and Platoon Physical Training events. During Lightning Forge, his performance while navigating enabled his truck crew to maneuver to a position of marked advantage, thus allowing his Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS) gunner to maximize his weapons standoff against the enemy. PFC Morales continues to display exemplary physical prowess during physical training. His performance helped the Warboys win the #Lightning7Challenge twice. Moreover, his ability in the pool led to his selection as a lifeguard. PFC Morales enjoys PT, field exercises, and spending time with his platoon. Following JRTC, he hopes to attend Air Assault School and the Small Unit Ranger Tactics program to further develop himself as a Soldier. His brother Isaiah is also a PFC and serves as a Gimlet in 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment. The Wolfhounds, Death Dealers, and Warboys are honored to have such a motivated and dedicated individual within our ranks! #FerociousinBattle #AlwaysReady #ReadyTeam #LethalWarriors #WhatsYourWarrior #PhysicalTraining #thisismysquad #ArmyStrong #Infantry #SeekandDestroy #Wolfhounds #nofear #tropiclightning #strikehard #LightningAcademy - #fillmore #santapaula #ventura #venturacollege #santapaulahighschool #fillmorehighschool #sierrahighschool #buenahighschool #venturahighschool #nordhoffhighschool #ojai #nowhiring @ Join the Army

Repost from @infantrymuseum #MedalOfHonor Leonard Louis Alvarado was born February 13, 1947 in Bakersfield, California, and enlisted in the U. S. Army on July 25, 1968, serving in the Vietnam War. Specialist Leonard L. Alvarado distinguished himself by acts above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Rifleman with Company D, 2d Battalion, 12th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) during combat operations against an armed enemy in Phuoc Long Province, Republic ...of Vietnam on August 12, 1969. On that day, as Alvarado and a small reaction force moved through dense jungle en route to a beleaguered friendly platoon, Alvarado detected enemy movement and opened fire. Despite his quick reaction, Alvarado and his comrades were soon pinned down by the hostile force that blocked the path to the trapped platoon. Alvarado quickly moved forward through the hostile machinegun fire in order to engage the enemy troops. Suddenly, an enemy grenade exploded nearby, wounding and momentarily stunning him. Retaliating immediately, he killed the grenadier just as another enemy barrage wounded him again. Alvarado crawled forward through the fusillade to pull several comrades back within the hastily-formed perimeter. Realizing his element needed to break away from the hostile force, Alvarado began maneuvering forward alone. Though repeatedly thrown to the ground by exploding satchel charges, he continued advancing and firing, silencing several emplacements, including one enemy machinegun position. From his dangerous forward position, he persistently laid suppressive fire on the hostile forces, and after the enemy troops had broken contact, his comrades discovered that he had succumbed to his wounds. Alvarado's daughter, Lenora, accepted the Medal of Honor on his behalf from President Barack Obama in a March 18, 2014 White House ceremony. Alvarado is buried at the Greenlawn Cemetery and Mortuary in Bakersfield, California. The Hall of Valor pays tribute to American Infantrymen who have received the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest award for bravery. #OnThisDayInHistory #HallofValor #MuseumFromHome
