$300 Deduction Helps Taxpayers Make 2020 Charitable Contributions Taxpayers who won't be itemizing for 2020 can still take advantage of the special $300 charitable-giving deduction authorized by Congress in the CARES Act this spring. According to the IRS, nearly 9 in 10 taxpayers currently take the standard deduction and could potentially qualify for this new deduction. The "above-the-line" deduction for cash donations, up to $300 to qualifying non-profits, is a special 2020... IRS incentive for taxpayers to support the work of non-profits during the pandemic. The deduction lowers both adjusted gross income and taxable income. 2020 cash gift to United Way of Santa Barbara County improve the lives of children, families and seniors, and can be made online, by phone or mail.
