Good morning World! Good morning Ukraine! St. George’s Church in Drohobych, Lviv Oblast is one of the oldest and best preserved wooden churches of Halychyna (Ga...licia). The church is a monument of Galician wooden architecture of the late 15th- early 16th centuries, one of the best preserved monuments of ancient Ukrainian sacral architecture. Built in the 15th century, it has been reconstructed several times and given its final architectural form by the talented Ukrainian architect Hryhoriy Tesla from Drohobych. The church is part of the wooden architecture department of the Drohobych Regional Museum. The church consists of three sectionsa. The central block is square and comprises the nave. Two other blocks contain the double apse and the narthex. Between 1678 and 1711, the church was renovated: the interior was painted with frescoes, octagonal structures were built, and a new belfry appeared. It is one of the 16 churches that comprise the World Heritage Site named Wooden Tserkvas (Churches) of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine. See more

The holiday of "Rozhanytsia" in Ukraine In the ancient beliefs of our ancestors, the Rozhanytsia is a friend of the family, of a mother and her daughters; she i...s the goddess of fertility and of female destiny. She is the image of the mother (as a symbol of the hostess, wisdom and care) and of the daughter (the personification of youth, love and beauty). From the depths of the centuries, the symbolism of the first ancient Ukrainian goddesses has been preserved in the patterns of folk embroidery. With the holiday of Rozhanytsia (September 21), "Grandmother's Summer" (aka "Indian Summer" in NA) begins. At this time, each woman honored her own Rozhanytsia. The banks of the rivers were sprinkled with flour, and flowered cakes and bublyks were released onto on the water. On the doorstep of their home, mothers poured water on their daughters so that they would grow up happy and healthy.
