#Homekey is the next phase in California's response to protecting homeless people at risk of serious illness and Covid-19. Thanks to #Homekey, funds were awarded this week to local jurisdictions for 10 sites, including ours! More info: bcsh.ca.gov/homekey
Check out this great Next City story on the success of Project Welcome Home. It focuses on our work with County of Santa Clara, California to rehouse chronically homeless people and includes insightful quotes from Vivian Wan, Abode's chief operating officer! https://nextcity.org//research-permanent-housing-help-chro
We are proud to endorse Measure W in Alameda County! Measure W will raise $150 million a year for critical services for homeless veterans, kids, seniors and others, providing permanent supportive housing, shelter, mental health services and more. For more info: www.hometogether2020.org
Once again, we have been named to the Top Rated List by GreatNonprofits, a national organization that shares nonprofits' stories and their community feedback. Thank you again for the honor, GreatNonprofits!
We'd like to give big thanks to Anjali, a member of #BofAVolunteers, who has been raising funds and assembling care packages for those in our programs who are experiencing homelessness. Thank you again, Anjali and Bank of America, for your support!
This recent NBC Bay Area story features an interview with Louis Chicoine, Abode's chief executive officer: This is an example of institutional racism. Just because someone had a problem when they were younger, we challenge the fundamental assumption that they're going to have a problem going forward. We just don't think people should be removed from a basic human need, which is housing." Louis Chicoine... https://www.nbcbayarea.com//ousing-program-compar/2375175/

Big thanks to Yardi for awarding Abode employee teams a Staff Appreciation Gift Card. We were thrilled to appreciate our property management, services, and finance teams, and reward them with a care package of snacks to celebrate Apartment On-Site Teams Day. Thank you again to Yardi and our Abode staff!
We'd like to thank Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese for his The Mercury News letter to the editor praising Abode's role in Project Welcome Home's success. The program, which Cortese championed from the start, has successfully rehoused chronically homeless people in the South Bay, as detailed in a recent UCSF study. Thank you again, Supervisor Cortese! https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/09/23/letters-74/
In response to the coronavirus, we quickly housed more than 1,300 people at 11 hotels. When asked to expand the hours of operation, we turned to Lirik, a tech solutions company in Milpitas, to solve our data-collection issues and bring order and efficiency to our systems. By creating automation solutions that worked for our agency's needs and workflow, Lirik empowered Abode Services to focus on our mission at a crucial time for our community and those in need. Thank you again, Lirik!
California won't meet climate goals without healthcare leading the way. Let's make a plan. Join Denah Nunes - Abode's Director of Health & Wellness, Alameda County - and other speakers at the Climate and Pandemic Resilience in Health Care Symposium on Sep 25! #NorCalClimateHealth https://stan.md/3ldZHk9
Read Marisa Kendall's great The Mercury News article on a report that celebrates the success of Project Welcome Home, a Santa Clara County program that rehouses people who've been chronically homeless. Abode offers counseling and other services for the program. Report co-author Dr. Margaret Kushel says it best: It works. It improves people’s lives. It keeps people housed. It ends homelessness. Full stop. https://www.mercurynews.com//it-works-groundbreaking-data/
Wearing a mask helps us protect each other during the Covid-19 crisis. That's why we're so thankful to Masks2All, which has distributed thousands of masks this year to unhoused Bay Area residents. Thank you, Masks2All, for recently donating masks to help children and adults in our programs!
Bethel Baptist Church members and leaders are among Abode's greatest volunteer groups. Their consistent and committed support while volunteering for our programs, during the holidays and throughout the year, truly brighten the days of our shelter residents. Thank you, Bethel Baptist Church of Union City for all that you do!
