Dr. Golomb presented a "poster" titled, Nuclear and Mitochondrial Genetics Together Determine Gulf War Illness Severity and Symptom Profile," two weeks ago at the Gulf War Illness State of the Science Virtual Conference. The 10-minute virtual presentation is available via Adobe Connect at https://adobe.ly/2EPjw0O. She also gave a talk entitled " Bioenergetics in Veterans with Gulf War Illness versus Healthy Controls; Replication and Expansion/Relation of Phosphocreatine Post Exercise Recovery Kinetics to Citric Acid Cycle Intermediates in Veterans with Gulf War Illness versus Healthy Controls," for which the CDMRP plans to release the PDF slides of soon.

Hello, everyone! Last September, Dr. Golomb published an article linking American diplomats' "mystery illness" to radiofrequency/microwave electromagnetic (RF/ MW) radiation. Check it out! "Her conclusions, [Dr. Golomb] said, may aid in the treatment of the diplomats (and affected family members) and assist U.S. government agencies seeking to determine the precise cause. More broadly, Golomb said her research draws attention to a larger population of people who are affected b...y similar health problems." - Scott LaFee, UC San Diego Health News UC San Diego Health News article here: https://health.ucsd.edu//2018-08-29-researcher-links-diplo Access the text here: https://www.mitpressjournals.org/d/abs/10.1162/neco_a_01133

"The team’s latest study, published February 9, 2018 in the journal Drug Safety, compared FDA reports of ALS while taking statins considering each statin separately and reports of ALS and other adverse effects for all drugs. This is known as disproportional reporting, and it’s considered a signal of a possible problem. The team found that the odds of reporting ALS vs. other problems were 9.1 to 107 times greater if a person took a statin (depending upon the individual statin) than expected (compared to other drugs)." http://ucsdhealthsciences.tumblr.com//data-mining-statin-r

A research group at the University of California, San Diego is conducting a medical research study to better understand the health of muscle cells in Gulf War veterans (1990-1 conflict) who developed Gulf War illness, compared to healthy volunteers. The study is enrolling Gulf War Veterans who were deployed during the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf Conflict AND healthy volunteers. Study participation involves up to 3 outpatient visits, to include: ... * a muscle biopsy performed by board-certified cardiologist Dr. Pam Taub, * blood draws, * a respiratory assessment, * a light exercise, * and health questionnaires. Meals and compensation will be provided upon completion of each visit. Contact our clinic for more information: Phone: 858-558-4950, x208 Email: [email protected] Or read more about the study here: https://www.golombresearchgroup.org/participateinourresea/

The new research findings corroborate Dr. Golomb's long-held theory that "mitochondrial dysfunction is involved in the pathobiology of Gulf War illness."
