David Won, one of UCMAP's longtime Taekwondo members, was interviewed by CNN recently about anti-Asian hate crime and what community members are doing to deter attacks. Thanks for stepping up & speaking up, David! #StopAAPIHate https://www.cnn.com//asian-americans-volunteer-/index.html

Since 1969, the UC Martial Arts Program (UCMAP) has trained thousands of Berkeley students, faculty, staff & community members in martial arts and self-defense. With the rising anti-Asian and Pacific Islander violence in America, many are wondering how to protect themselves if harassed or assaulted. Join UCMAP’s Lily Chou for a free webinar discussing how to think strategically about personal safety, transform fear into self-confidence, and learn how to support others through... uncertain and difficult times. A fourth-degree black belt, Lily has been training in Yongmudo, a self-defense-oriented Korean martial art, for over 25 years and is an instructor in UCMAP’s Yongmudo club. She has also studied taekwondo and Brazilian jiujitsu, co-written two martial arts books, and edited several Krav Maga and yongmudo training manuals. THANK YOU, DONORS! In our last week of fundraising, we doubled our donations through your generosity! Over the course of the month, more than a hundred of you supported UCMAP's return to in-person training through our Crowdfund campaign, and we are blown away by the number of people who have given. This past week, the University of California released additional guidance about our return to campus this fall. We now have a clear line of sight and timeline for a return to... in-person training, and these funds will be used to help us prepare for this opportunity. We are reminded in such times that community is truly central to who we are. To those near and far - THANK YOU for your ongoing support of UCMAP! #UCMAPDevelopmentFund #BlackBelt #UCMAP #MartialArts #MartialArtsLife #Fundraiser #Nonprofit #NonprofitFundraising

Today is the last day of UCMAP's fundraising campaign - please support us if you can at https://crowdfund.berkeley.edu/project/25501 to help us return to in-person training! " " ("Jiayou!") The calls come loudly and frequently during wushu competitions and demos, as teammates call out their support in Mandarin Chinese. This experience is what Tami Church (née Cosio) remembers most about the years she spent training with and teaching at the Cal Wushu Club. "Cal Wushu a...nd the wushu community are always there to support one another and help you become a stronger athlete and stronger person," she shares. This supportive community is a critical part of UCMAP's decades-long mission to bring a quality martial arts education to the Cal campus. Generations of students have encouraged one another through thick and thin, often forming deep friendships that continue outside the training room. Help us continue these time-honored traditions by donating at our Crowdfund campaign! #UCMAPDevelopmentFund #BlackBelt #UCMAP #MartialArts #MartialArtsLife #Fundraiser #Nonprofit #NonprofitFundraising
