Equine Medicine Club at UC Davis

Our members recently had another enjoyable dental day at Sadies horse rescue! We’re grateful for the chance to continue learning about equine dental care while helping a great organization.

Many thanks to AAEP for sponsoring our equine dental event last weekend where we got to spend some time learning from lectures and getting hands-on with the dental tools. Dr. Caldwell and Dr. Gregory were a pleasure to work with and we are so grateful for all we learned from them! Our members are excited to have gotten a feel for working with the equine mouth in advance of our curricular labs and clinics.

We had a great bandaging wetlab this past week where our members got to try their hand at basic leg wraps and bandages! This was a great chance for us to practice a valuable skill and get to know some of our new first year members. Many thanks to Dr. Davis, Cindy Davis, and Dr. Costa for teaching us their tips and tricks!

We had an interesting and interactive final lab of our lameness series last week. Students had the opportunity to practice performing joint injections, suturing, and nerve blocks. Thank you to the faculty who shared their time and knowledge with us!

The Equine Medicine Club had a wonderful time at the 2019 AAEP Essential Skills Podiatry Workshop this past weekend. Our club would like to thank Dr. Scott Pleasant and Mr. Dave Dawson for traveling to Davis to share their expertise on all things hoof related! Our very own Shane Westman APF, Farrier Service and Dr. Julie Dechant were invaluable to the workshop as well. A special thank you to The American Association of Equine Practitioners for making this event possible.
