Please sign and share! Current CDC guidelines allow bands to rehearse inside, needing masks and bell covers if social distancing is not possible. California needs to stop making up their own rules and adding unscientific requirements for bands like having to rehearse outside, while being 12 feet apart, and wearing masks and bell covers. It’s not right while other activities are given the freedom to have games and disregard safety precautions! Our students deserve better!!

The WBA team has been following COVID-19 very closely over the last several months. Our students are our north star; we do everything we can to foster meaningfu...l experiences and inspire their growth and development in a safe environment. We also have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our staff, directors, volunteers, and fans. After countless hours of scenario planning, we have determined that at this time we cannot safely host any of our regularly scheduled events this season. Watching the winter season unravel was extremely sobering and inspired us to develop ways to support music and music education regardless of what fall would bring. This year we will be offering several performance-based opportunities for our students and ensembles: WBA Virtual Festivals, WBA Honor Band, WBA I&E, and various WBA education events/clinics. WBA Virtual Festivals Let your creativity shine; virtual festivals will provide a performance opportunity for any ensemble configuration you're able to present. This will encompass nearly any version of an ensemble. Examples include full bands, small ensembles, jazz bands, color guards, or percussion ensembles. Ensembles submit videos of their performances and then receive feedback and a rating from our world-class adjudicators. WBA Honor Band (virtual) The best of the best! Inspired by the California Band Directors Association All-State Honor Ensembles, WBA is offering educational opportunities for our ensembles in the Honor Band arena, with a WBA twist. Students will audition via recorded video using the CBDA music and our world-class adjudicators will hand-pick WBA Honor Band members. A final master performance video will be produced and aired at our online season finale event. WBA I&E presented by System Blue (virtual) Compete in a variety of categories against other students from all over the west to see whose solo/ensemble performance takes first place. Performances will be adjudicated by our world-class adjudicators based on what is submitted. WBA Education Events and Clinics (virtual) Webinars, clinics, and other services will deliver world-class educational experiences to our ensembles, directors, and staff. We will communicate more details about these opportunities as they become available. These new offerings are just the beginning! We’d like to keep hearing from our WBA community so we can continue to develop offerings that support you, your ensemble, and the unique educational times we’re in. We will find strength in our community. Our information gathering efforts will continue and we’ll remain agile as the world changes over the next few months. And as the world changes, so will we. All the while our commitment to providing our students, staff, directors, volunteers, and fans world-class service will remain steadfast. Be well and take care, WBA

Dear Clovis East Band and Guard- It comes with great disappointment that I must announce that WBA has cancelled the fall competitive season for marching band. Due to the vast increase in COVID-19 cases, the organization did not feel it was in the best interest of families and students to host events. We understand the disappointment this surely will cause as the senior class of 2021 will miss their last field show season. Our juniors and sophomores won’t get to build upon th...eir past season’s successes. The freshman class won’t get to experience their first season as it should be. This breaks our hearts. We will be looking at an alternative marching band experience for this fall that will not require the time demand of a competitive season but will provide a rewarding experience for our members. We will have a better idea what this fall will look like for our members after the CUSD Board meeting this coming Wednesday that will determine how our schools will operate starting in August. At this time, we will be cancelling next week’s sectional rehearsals for brass and woodwinds. Percussion and Color Guard will still meet as they will continue to work on rudiments and basics in prep for our fall semester. We will also be cancelling the first week of band camp, but will still meet for week 2 (Aug 3-8) with a modified schedule based on current safety guidelines and protocols in place. More information will be provided as it is made available. Thank you. -Mr. Mellone
