While #COVID19 continued to surge this Winter, the flu did not. We had zero hospitalized patients who tested for the flu this season. Health experts say it was all due to masking, social distancing, and early flu vaccines that nearly eliminated flu season. http://ucdavis.health/3qxzYoS
Five days after Harper was born at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff she went into heart failure. She was transferred to Mercy Medical Center Redding where they determined she needed to be flown to UC Davis Children's Hospital. It was a life or death situation. Harper was diagnosed with truncus arteriosus (a rare type of heart disease) and needed immediate surgery. Dr. Raff was phenomenal. He’s our hero. So when you ask what UC Davis Children’s Hospital means to me, it’s simple. It means my daughter’s life. Mom, Jenneca, talking about how the partnership between UC Davis Health and Mercy Medical Center helped save her daughter’s life. On Sunday at 3:28 am, our team successfully separated nine-month old twins that were conjoined at the head. The 24 hour surgery, which took months of careful planning and preparation, was a landmark procedure for UC Davis Children's Hospital. The team spent months tracking the twins’ growth, used 3D models to practice the surgery and mixed reality goggles to see the vessels they would later separate. The team made this first-of-its-kind surgery at UC Davis "flawless, with all contingencies covered". https://ucdavis.health/34DOaUF

102-year-old veteran Milton Hildebrand born in 1918, one of the few to have seen two global pandemics has never had his story told in full, until now. A long-tenured professor of zoology at UC Davis, Hildebrand’s achievements during the war in the years between his undergraduate education at UC Berkeley and his graduate studies there have been largely unsung, despite his Bronze Star for leadership and bravery. Through the We Honor Veterans program, we now have a record of this amazing man and the experiences that defined his life. https://ucdavis.health/3leTW5l #VeteransDay
