Robert L. Herbert, 91, Dies; Saw Impressionism With a Fresh Eye A distinguished art historian at Yale, he illuminated the paintings of Seurat, Monet and others by regarding them through a social lens.
Professor Michael Yonan will present a paper at a virtual conference sponsored by the University of Kassel, Germany, the University of Rome, and the University of Barcelona focused on Europe and the Ancient Near East: Reception and Construction of Images of the Ancient Near East since the 17th Century. Professor Yonan will present Ancient Near Eastern Themes in German Porcelain of the18th Century on the final day of the conference in the Architecture / Arts & Crafts / Everyday Culture session. Need a break from studying? Join Caitlin Schwarz, (MA. '19) and the Pence Art Gallery in Davis to explore the origins of Valentine's Day and how it's celebrated around the globe through a special workshop on Feb. 10. During her presentation, Schwarz will provide background about valentine traditions and instruct participants on how to make a Victorian valentine.
