Twin Oaks ValleyThis area is named for the "Twin Oaks" tree, which had two trunks growing from the same base. Unfortunately, the original tree died of old age after living over 200 years in the upper Twin Oaks Valley. Two new Oaks were planted in front of the new San Marcos City Hall in remembrance of the original Oak. Also, the riparian habitat along the golf course was revegetated with native plants to mitigate the Civic Center project. This area was once a pasture of the original Twin Oaks Valley Horse Ranch. Twin Oaks Valley was named after an oak tree with two trunks growing out of a single base that presided over the area for more than 200 years. After the original tree died, two commemorative oak trees were planted in front of the San Marcos City Hall in its memory. According to local legend, the original tree with two trunks was a meeting place for Native Americans who lived in the area.
