Taylor & Thornburg Physical Therapy 12.11.2020

Exciting News! Taylor & Thornburg Physical Therapy is now Fyzical-Grand Lake Oakland Taylor & Thornburg Physical Therapy was established in 2003 by Caroline Taylor and Kathryn Thornburg. In 2019 we decided to partner with a national organization. By doing so we have access to discounted services, increased training for our staff, and consulting about best business practices. We retain our same ownership, address, phone number and staff and continue to provide the same excellent quality of services that you have come to expect from us.

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and instructions to ancillary health care providers. Your health, and the health of our staff and community are of utmost importance to us. The shelter in place order for Alameda county effective Tuesday March 17th to Tuesday April 7th means that we are cancelling all routine physical therapy appointments during this time period. We are able to accommodate only urgent appointments, but otherwise we remain closed. We anticipate b...eing able to provide telehealth services in the near future to people we have seen recently. Please contact us if you are interested in this service. Voice messages and email sent to [email protected] are being monitored and returned daily. If your appointments have been cancelled, you can expect a call from your physical therapist to check in. These are highly unusual times. Be well, and be kind. We look forward to seeing you back in the clinic in April. See more

Early last year we were able to expand our clinic space to include a new street level treatment area. This has allowed us to add new therapists to our staff, to begin to work with PT students in the last year of their DPT program (Samuel Merritt University) and to have some more open exercise space. If you haven't been here in a while, stop by for a peak!

Yoga vs. Physical Therapy for treatment of Low Back Pain: A recent article comparing Yoga with PT for treatment of LBP has been in the news lately. The news is stating that there is "no difference" between the two in efficacy for LBP. Here are a few things to understand about the article:1) The yoga was in a class designed for people with physical limitations so it wasn't just an average yoga class at your local studio. If you choose to try yoga and have back pain contact the... yoga studio ahead of time. Find out if they have a class specifically for people with back pain. There are some local classes led by Physical Therapists. These would be better places to start. 2) Physical Therapy should be adapted to each patient so one approach won't work for everyone. It is helpful to see a PT first so that you can learn what the best form of exercise would be for you and your back at this time in your recovery and to ask what type of yoga (or other exercise) would be good to do or good to avoid. 3) Read the article so you understand what was actually measured for results. Remember that it is really important to gain strength and flexibility when you have back pain but you need to do what works for your body. We are here to answer your questions!
