Walking the line to run better . . Today we are keeping it simple and talking about an exercise that challenges multiple different systems. This exercise is helpful for anyone that is running and/or walking and feel like they are disconnected or their timing is off. One of the best things about this exercise is that is really helps with smoothing out the transition between movements during the walking or running gait. This exercise can be performed on the floor or on a... challenging surface like a 1/2 foam roll. . . Start by anchoring a theraband to the wall at about chest height. Grab the theraband and hold your arms straight at chest height. Then walk about from the wall until you have a challenging but tolerable tension. Make sure that your trunk is aligned over your pelvis and that your entire core is active. Then try to march forward and backward while maintaining your original position. Hopefully what you will notice is that there is a crossing pattern of activation happening. In the video I demonstrate how the theraband is to my right and when I march my left leg I should feel my right shoulder and trunk engage to activate those crossing muscles so that I can stay level. I would recommend performing this on both sides around 30 times. . . This can be progressed by increasing the resistance from the band, increasing the tempo of the march and/or walking on un-level surface like a 1/2 roll. . . Try it out and let me know if you have any questions! . . Dr. Aaron . . Hit us up! DM us! Hip Twisters! Today I will be demonstrating an exercise to challenge multi-plane strength in the hip. There are many amazing hip strengthening exercises that someone could perform but I love this one as it challenges the transition from different muscle groups. I like this because that is how a hip functions during mortal functional activities like soccer. During a sport like soccer or any other sport involving running and cutting the hip muscles are constantly active in d...ifferent planes which allows us to stop, cut, change position and sprint. . . Start by grabbing a @BOSU or exercise ball or just low box. I would recommend starting with the BOSU or box as it is more stable before using the exercise ball. Lay flat on the floor with you leg on the BOSU or low box. Perform a core brace to keep your trunk level with your pelvis and then perform a single leg bridge. Then bring the opposite leg over the leg in the bridge and try to tap the floor then returning to the starting position. The goal is to keep your core and hip muscles active the entire time so your butt does not drop to the floor. Shoot for 8-10 reps 3 times on each leg. Try to keep it buttery smooth! . . Try it out and let me know if you have any questions! . . Dr. Aaron . . Hit us up! DM us! Monday’s make us miss the weekend! . . A couple weeks ago Lauren and I went on an adventure to Alabama hills, Mount Whitney and Bishop which was such an amazing time. We star gazed, we hiked, we climbed, we scrambled, we jumped in lakes and rivers and loved every second of it. Big shout to @theindieyogi for taking the lead, @daniel_beall for the beta on the region and @vivobarefoot for making a shoe that excelled in all of the outdoor elements. .... Want a pair? More podcast love! Here’s the fun little backstory of how we got to podcasting together: A past student of mine, Kelsey of @physio_kuehn connected Nicole of @mobilityathletes and me back in March. Nicole was coming to SD, from Illinois, for a competition and needed to borrow a treatment table and I had one to offer! ThenCOVID restrictions. Cancelled competition and therefore cancelled treatment table borrowing and us meeting Instead, Nicole offered to do a podcast toget...her and the rest is history! We, of course, talked about pelvic health physical therapy, urinary leaking, postpartum changes and not settling for just be-ing. Listen in if you wanna learn and support! #Repost @mobilityathletes with @get_repost New podcast episode available now! Let’s be honest - who else has peed in an attempt at a PR lift, double-unders, or box jumps? In our latest episode of Mobility Athletes Radio we speak with Lauren, an inspiring physical therapist that continues to help others, focusing a bulk of her efforts on women's health. She’s the owner of Thrive Physical Therapy and insists that the perspective you have on your health is most important to living your best life. In honor of our upcoming THREE YEAR marriage anniversary and the amazing support we’ve had along the way, here’s a fun podcast we did together with one of our bomb ass business coaches! . Danny @dannymattapt was one of the strong voices we listened to to get pumped and stay pumped when starting our company. We then joined his, @ptbiz and @eo3_fit PT Biz Mastermind group and gained way more than just pump ups! So grateful to all of them and grateful to be on this podcast.... . In all honesty, I can’t remember exactly what we talked about! #notscripted but I’m sure it’s about our beginnings, how we met, what lead us to starting our own company and how we navigated being classmates, husband and wife and business partners. . Please excuse the sound quality, we obvi don’t have a professional and were just chillin at home #physicaldistancing . Hope you enjoy! If you have any questions, holler! . . Read the history, be disgusted and pissed off, then learn more about it and do it. Sit your ass on a pot of beautiful herbs and sip@some while you to systemic racism. #Repost @steamychick with @get_repost Thank you to everyone fighting for justice and thank you to all of the muted pages amplifying black voices at this time. Racism usually isn't a popular topic and it's not something people usually want to get into a conversation about so I haven't really explained on... this platform before how vaginal steaming is anti-racist. Here's a brief explanation. [Alert -- if you do not know the history of gynecology this may be very triggering.] ... ... ... The founder of modern day gynecology was a slave owner named J.Marion Sims. He used his enslaved servants (women and children) for surgical experiments. It is unknown how many people he killed during these experiments. What we do know is that once he learned how to perform uterine surgery without killing someone Sims opened up a university to train other doctors how to perform this surgery on white women with anesthesia so they wouldn't feel pain. Modern day gynecology still uses the tools and methods developed by Sims and glorifies him as the grandfather of gynecology. ... ... Reclaiming vaginal steaming is the return to a gentle method of care used by female physicians before Sims took over the field. It's the return to a method of care that didn't depend on cutting up enslaved black bodies. It's the acknowledgment that white males don't know everything about treating the female body and that there are other treatment methods that weren't created by them that may be useful for uterine health. ... ... Happy Mother’s Day! . Dear Mothers, . Thank you thank you thank you for all of the unwavering love, support and guidance that you provide and model for us. And somehow doing this while navigating, maybe, the most challenging and important job of your life. Thank you for the endless sacrifices that you make to ensure our lives are as best as they can be. Thank you for knowing when to pull us in and comfort us and when to let us fly when independence is needed.... . Mothers make the world go round and we hope today (and so many other days) that the world shows, tells, yells and proves to you how much you mean to us! We love you so much. So. Much.
